So, I just completed a week long course. Some of the time was dedicated to certification in OC spray and tasers. I never fully realized their potency!!!!

The OC spray was a quick blast in the face and I was blinded and completely and painfully debilitated for at least 15 minutes, and then I had intense pain and gradual recovery of senses over the next 1-2 hours. I was still in pain for about a total of 5 or 6 hours and it only went away after I was able to wash my face repeatedly and shower. It was miserably effective!

I received a 5 second two-prong taser shot from 10 feet on my bareskin back. My body locked up and I was in the most intense pain of my life for 5 seconds. After about 2 seconds I wanted it to end! I cannot tell you how unbearable the pain is!!! I was completely 100% unable to function any motor skills or focus on any task. My only thought was that I was in unbearable pain and wanted it to end.

I am going to add these to my personal arsenal of weaponry after having experienced their incredible effectiveness.

what brand spray did you use? i've had 3 different ones used on me, with varying effect; the only one that took the fight out of me was Fox Labs Mean Green. i still don't trust OC spray to effectively stop an attack from someone who was whacked out on drugs, or mentally ill.

i've never been tased, and never want to be.

OC Spray
Pros:
-Multiple "shots" with enough capacity, no-brainer to shoot
-Can be used on more than one target
-Cheap! Even the good stuff will rarely go over $20
-Almost always legal
-Hurts for hours (a little underhanded justice;))
Cons:
-Could be clogged by debris
-Back-splash at close range (unless it's PepperFoam)
-Have to hit the face with a decent amount
-Slight delay between impact and effect, 2-10 seconds.
-May not work on some people or animals

Taser
Pros:
-Instant and complete incapacitation
-Free replacement if lost during attack (with police report)
Cons:
-Expensive! $200+
-Lots of red tape to activate with Taser Intl.
-Only one shot, and have to hit with both darts. Harder then it looks for consumer vs. LEO making arrest.
-A rare few individuals have unusual physiology that makes them resistant to being shocked.

Something to temper above statements: Sometimes bullets don't stop people either.

The OC was the Fox Labs 1 pound canister "party pleaser" with 5.3 MM SHU.

Yes, there are limitations with tasers and OC spray which include direction, distance, wind, obstruction, etc. However, these can be absolutely fantastic tools for less than lethal or for people that are adverse to firearms or can't or won't train (elderly, pacifists, etc.) or cannot carry due to felony convictions, no-CCW states, etc.

I'm a large considerably tough guy and train with other Soldiers that are tougher than me, and without exception all 30 of us in this training were 100% out of commission for the entire 5 seconds for the taser and for a long time (times varied per person, but were at least for 15 minutes until initial effects wore off) with the OC.

A large caniser of OC would be very effective for crowd control/dispersion to keep in your vehicle in the event you are in a riot situation and need to be mobile in your vehicle. They make a devise that has a small tube/nozel that you can stick out your car window through a small slot and gas a crowd without backblast into your car.

I was under the impression that a felon was not allowed to carry a concealed weapon of any sort... including tasers and pepper spray.
