This bumps our state considerably up the ladder of gun friendliness.

Among other things;
Allows Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) holders to lawfully carry their personal protection firearms into a restaurant that serves alcohol, provided they do not consume alcohol.

Removes the prohibition on CHP holders carrying into a place where tickets are sold for admission.

Fixes the problem of anti-gun localities overstepping their authority regarding restricting CHP holders from carrying firearms into locally controlled parks.

Allows CHP holders to transport their personal protection handguns in their motor vehicle while on all school property, as well as allows them to store those handguns in a closed container in their locked vehicles while parked on school property.

Ensures the privacy of CHP holders by allowing access to the database of permittees only for law enforcement purposes.

Removes the prohibition on CHP holders carrying their personal protection firearms during a parade or funeral.

Allows employees of schools to keep handguns in their home when the home is located on the school’s grounds, as well as transport the handguns on and off campus in the employee’s vehicle.

Brings North Carolina in compliance with the standards set forth in the federal NICS Improvement Amendments Act (NIAA) of 2007.

Removes the prohibition on using firearms with sound suppressing devices while otherwise lawfully hunting game.

Sweet! Looks like you'll be able to use suppressors when hunting now too.
Kinda jealous! Wish we could use suppressed rifles here in Ohio for deer!

Great! Thanks for the heads-up Tardevil. I have a grandson in Huntersville and travel to visit him occasionally so this is welcomed news.

S.C. had a similar revision to the law concerning restaurant carry tabled earlier this year. I hope that it makes it through the state senate early 2014.

Awesome! Those are some much needed improvements. The prohibition of carrying in a restaurant that serves alcohol has always been particularly baffling to me.

Not that the others actually made sense....

I am very pleased with the actions of the North Carolina Legislature and Governor
Pat McCrory in passing this new legislation and signing it into law. I just might have
to go out and find a nice restaurant to celebrate the freedom to carry a gun inside as
a patron. Things have really improved in North Carolina for those of us who exercise
their Second Amendment rights!

All right!:D
As a frequent visitor to NC I really welcome this...if we could get the same in SC that would be even better news.

We can carry in restaurants with permits, but still a "zero tolerance" for consumpion.

VA only allows consumption of alcohol if you're open carrying. Still prohibited from drinking if you're CCing. Because that makes sense.

While we still have a long way to go I'm glad the state legislature did what they said they were going to do and that McCrory signed the bill. This one legislative accomplishment is more than the state managed in the 4 years under the god-awful Perdue. I hope the Brady Campaign updates their state rankings soon, can't wait to fall down their list substantially.

I was also disappointed when the restaurant carry bill was tabled in the SC legislature and was surprised tbh. Being on the state line with you guys means that I spend time in SC, get it together. Hell, SC is where I go to shoot;)

Earlier today I sent the link to this thread to SC State Senator Katrina Shealy, one of the co-sponsors of the SC bill. I wanted her to be sure to see what N.C. has accomplished and asked her about the prospects for S.C. in early 2014.

She is a true conservative and pro 2nd Amendment individual. She responded to my requests for info a few times last year so I'm hoping to hear from her on this as well. If I do I'll post here.

Excellent! Make sure to thank your representatives.

I've heard of other states passing laws regarding carrying on school property, isn't that a federal law that you can't though?

Well done! As Sam1911 and I discussed in another thread, NC had some carry laws that would make a carrier downright paranoid about going out armed. I was recently there, and was constantly reviewing the different places I was going during each outing to determine when and where I needed to disarm.

Seems like now the main differences between there and my Florida is that, in Florida, we can consume alcohol while armed in a alcohol-serving restaurant (bars are off limits, consuming or not), and that Florida still all-but bans open-carry.

The nut case extremists in Chapel Hill are on a crusade to have places posted. It's like the early 20th century up there, just different text on the signs.

I didn't know this passed. I was sending emails fairly often to State reps, but had kind of given up hope. This is great news as I often opt to go to VA for dinner instead of NC, especially the part I live in, if I had to go unarmed.

Really great news. Emails are going out now to thank the State reps and Governor.

Can you package some of that up and send some to Virginia please??

Why? We pretty much already have all of this here in Virginia. Which part are you not sure of?
