What type of rest are you using? My experience has been to get the anticipated results the rifle needs to be positioned/held firmly the exact same way with every shot.

to get the anticipated results the rifle needs to be positioned/held firmly the exact same way with every shot.

I started with just the cheap black and tan front and rear bags . I have since went to a more stable front rest ( nothing fancy ) just better then a bag and still using the same rear bag .

I agree that having the rifle as stable as possible is important but is that not true with all your shooting . :) I'd love to have a machine rest or return to battery rest but this load and my type of shooting is not worth spending that kinda money for a rest like that . Right now I'm pretty happy being able to shoot just about 1/2 moa out to the 300yd line . Not sure how much a fancy rest would have made this load better .

Even if it did . I personal hate shooting from anything that does not feel like I'm doing most of the work . So even if a nice rest would allow me to shoot 1/4 to 1/3 moa . I still would not use the rest during my regular shooting and likely would still end up at the 1/2 moa groups I'm shooting now .

I'm not knocking your point . I think it's an accurate statement . I'm just letting you know how and why I did it the way I did .

I get your point, mine was that it has to be both steady and repeatable. Inconsistencies tend to make groups grow and can skew results in an OCW test. I have a Ruger #1V that is kind of finicky about the way it is situated on the sandbags. Of all things, it likes my Harris bipod the best. 1/2 MOA at 300 yards is not bad shooting.
