In other words, I am changing jobs:D

I'll be training in So Cal for 3-5 months, then moving to North Carolina, near Charlotte.

I am assuming that southern state has reasonable laws, it would also seem the mountains in thw western end of the state would offer good hunting opportuntities.

Any fellow members in NC with advice?:)

Check your PM for my cell number. Give me a ring when you get a chance.

Anything is better than Kali.

Where at above Charlotte?

I personally love the Carolina's.

Take a vacation down at Myrtle Beach when you get the chance. I was there for 5 years and loved it.

NC has better gun laws than Kali thats for sure.

Congrats on your escape.;)

So close to so many battelfields. Congratulations for your escape from the asylum.

North Carolina does have a concealed carry law. You have to take the concealed carry class then go to your local Sheriff's Office to have a backround check done. If everything is good, then the Sheriff will issue you a concealed carry permit. Depends on which county you live in on how quick it's issued. Also, North Carolina is an open carry state. The major gun stores around the Charlotte area are Hyatts Gun on Wilkerson Blvd, Carolina Sporting Arms on South Blvd, Fire Power in Matthews, and Shooters Express in Belmont. Shooters and Fire Power have indoor shooting ranges and also there is another indoor range at D&L Products between Charlotte and Monroe. D&L is the only indoor range in the area that has been OSHA certified. You don't have to go to the western part of North Carolina to deer hunt, just drive down the highway and try not to hit any.

How far will you be from Duke? I know a pair of twins from Duke that are cute and adorable as heck but they're back here now :D

Oh yeah...AR-15s!!! Can you get pet skunks in NC? How far will you be from the birthplace of Earl Scruggs?

10-ring is pretty close to Ontario. Just don't ask him about the time we walked out of an IDPA match :D

Another Cali refugee goes over the wall.

Welcome. Sarge 456 has it right about deer. Actually its a little cheaper to harvest them with cars as opposed to guns.

A week ago I made a pilgrimage to the Blue Ridge Parkway to do the leaf thingy. Twice my car was assaulted by deer. One time I narrowly avoided a major pileup on the interstate.

I hate Bambi.

I'm here in Charlotte and have lived in the area all of my life. When you get here, let me know and I'll be happy to help you settle in and try to answer what questions you have. If I can't answer, we'll find someone who can.

Welcome to the Charlotte area. My advice is to live outside of Mecklenburg County if possible....Pendergraph is not a gun friendly Sheriff.

Handgun Purchase Permits take two to three weeks, CCW takes, generally, the full time, and he won't sign for FA, suppressors, or SBRs. Of course there are ways around that. :D

Once you get here, if you're interested in the Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club, a private club with an indoor range in Indian Trail and outdoor shotgun, rifle , pistol, and plinking ranges near Waxhaw, send me an email.

And just so you know, since Charlotte is so close to the border, NC and SC now have reciprocity with regards to CCW.

The closer you are to the big cities the more antigun stuff you run into. I am lucky in that the current county manager for the county I live in is very pro-gun (I guess that is why he bought a new Kimber). The leaves aren't are pretty as they can have been in other years but so far it has been a mild fall.

Great info guys, thanks:)

Skunky, so far my luck with twins has not been that good, at least based on a pair of Armenian twins, anyway. Still working on one Korean engineer:)

Is most NC hunting on public, or private land? Darn, deer running all over sounds a lot like West Texas:D

Yup, a guy from my company ran through a herd of them, on the highway, in the weddington area (South of charlotte) about two months ago....only wound up hitting two.

Don't know about hunting on public or private land. I do know that around Charlotte anyway, yuppies are building homes on lots of old farmland south of the city and deer are on the move. Drive carefully, especially at night.

I will never forget one night in West Texas, driving from Ozona out to our lease - I counted 57 deer in 17 miles on, or around the road. #57 scratched drivers door with the tip of an antler, as I braked and swerved.

Welcome to the right coast. Overall NC is pretty gun friendly. As to the deer hunting, there may be certain places that are restricted to shotgun or from tree stand only, but most of the state is not.

Welcome to NC. Can't comment on the Charlotte area, but we are getting more states added to our CCW reciprocity agreement more and more.
:D
GREAT place to live.

Hi, and welcome. I live 20 miles NW of Charlotte, but venture there often. It is pretty nice...for a large city.

As for the deer, it used to be unheard of to see deer in my area, now they are walking around in the front yard:D . They are definately multiplying in the area.

Good luck!
