Ok....Ive got a gun that is screaming for some help. Ive customized a prior CZ40B and it ended up too damn nice and was destined to be a safe queen.
Yes, to nice to carry and thats not a good thing for me....not that my safe is full, just I dont have enough guns to really put one in my safe and just leave it there.

Heres a list of possibilities.......

Bobtail the backstrap
Undercut the trigger guard
Beavertail more upswept
Melt/no sharp edges on frame/slide
Put horizontal lines on the Vertical lines= checkering
After market sights
Jewel parts/hammer/trigger/barrel etc

Fill in the blank with your own thoughts........

Just keep in mind, its a ccw gun and a holster mold. I want to keep it pretty basic...if thats possible.

Heres a pic of the last try......it had everything I listed above and then some...Yes, its a CZ40B P1010033.jpg

Shoot well.........

I need to come see you, Eric! Chase tells me you've got a new shop set up.

Heck, man, just do to the 40 what you did to your PCR. I especially liked the grooved backstrap. (That was your PCR, wasn't it?)

I've seen your guns, and there's not much you can't do... I'm just wondering if it's the features that make it a safe queen, or the attachment of doing it yourself that makes it a safe queen...?

Damn Eric!

Your first custom 40B was superb. You said it was too pretty to carry or shoot, but you had it HARD CHROMED, which is about as durable a finish as you can get!

I've got an idea: don't refinish your new one! Just leave the metal in the white -- or mostly in the white. That way you'll be ready to use it!!

I remember that first one, it was so nice I think eric got like 700.00 for it, that kinda tells you how nice it was......heres an idea for you, fix this one up the same way and this time I'll be ready to buy it (last time I was cash poor!).....just don't tell my wife.........tom

I was thinking of spiffing up one of those 40Bs myself.

I was thinking along the lines of putting a chrome finish on the frame, adding nightsites, and some Haken blackout grips. I didn't really think of sweeping the beavertail, but I really like the way it looks. Did you do the beavertail job or did yousend it off? If you sent it off how much did it run?

I'm considering using the 40b in production class comps.

Hey Eric,

I think a 'melt job' would be interesting.

However, the only change I made on mine that I think was a necesarry (whatever that means) was to install the XS Big Dot sights, Hogue wood grips (sorry Hakan, it was before you had grips for the 40B) and a couple holster from somewhere.

But, wouldn't the 'melt' option cause problems for using the gun as a holster mold?
Might have to get a 2nd one??? Is your head starting to spin yet?

Actually I did all of the modifications myself on the one thats pic'd. The bobtail was the hardest thing to do.
The melt is so subtle I can still use it for a mold. But is still effective in its purpose.
The only thing I had done elsewhere is the chrome, grips Thanks Hakan, sights the front sight is Fiber Optic one off made by Cogan, and the barrel and trigger work.
The holsters may be a problem though..........didnt think of that.....damn.
If I do go to town on this one....Ill either two tone it or just leave it black.
Shoot well..........

When I traded you that 40B you said "I'm not modifying this one, it's just going to be a mold." I'm suprised you've held out this long! :neener:

Sights wouldn't be a bad idea. I've modified most of my pistols to be a dot over dot like the Heinie Straight 8 night sights. I wish Heinie would make these for the CZs. They just work so well for me. Plus, 1 less vial means they SHOULD be cheaper, although they don't seem to be. ;)

When you go to refinish it think about Gun-Koting it. Lots of color options for a unique two tone look. Keep the top black for low-glare tacticoolness and pick your favorite color for the bottom. :)

My site is down for a couple of days...thus the pic cant be hosted.
The beavertail is taken from a more squared shape to an upswept point...much like the 1911 the gun is designed after.

The finish is the last thing that will happen....when this all is done.

Ill throw around the various possibilities..............thanks, Shoot well

Eric,

Leave the factory finish as you mentioned and how about hard chroming all the 'blued' parts?
ie: the hammer, safety, slide stop, and mag release.

It would be simple and give a nice color contrast IMHO.

Well......I could do the small/hard parts chrome and have the frame Black Hard Anodized locally. I look into pricing......If I did that Id have to get the slide Hard Chromed also.....but then it would look like a Sig! Very nice but not that original. Im gonna start playing with it today........belt sander here I come.
Shoot well...........

Ok.....I did some frame work. Bobtail is done, upswept beavertail is done, took sharp edge off of the frame....looking nice. Ill get some pics up when my site allows me to host them again.
Not to shabby................Shoot well.

Hey Eric,

Speaking as the owner of your first custom 40B, IMO the frame mods that were done to it were for the most part very useful as well as being esthetically pleasing. The most useful IMO is the bobbing of the grip for concealment purposes, (Yes I actually do carry it at times.) the pointy factory grip frame prints more than it has to. Too bad the frame structure wouldn't allow for a little bit more to come off.

The dehorning job and upswept beavertail are great as well.

I think the checkering didn't contribute too much functionally, the front and backstraps still feel pretty much identical with my factory 40B. If it could be done deeper, with sharper points it would be an improvement.

The hard chrome finish is wonderful, the pistol still looks as good as when I first got it. I do take care of it, but I don't coddle it; I shoot it fairly regularly as well as carry it on occasion and think that the finish will probably look great for a long long time to come.
