Ok. I admit it. I like AR pistols now.

I just put this together. 8" chambered in .300 Blackout. Man this thing is a hoot. I think the SIG brace really makes AR pistols more useable and less of a novelty (for me anyways). I do need to move the handstop forward though.

Now that you can effectively have an SBR while legally being a handgun, yes, AR pistols have a lot more use. An 8" barrel not so much in the standard 5.56, but most definitely in 300 blk.

Now you just need a suppressor for the end of it and you'll have the trifecta (short barrel, 300 blk, suppressed)

I'd say it has a little more recoil than a .223 (still low in recoil) but it doesn't have that loud snap that .223 has coming out of a really short barrel. It doesn't have the big fireball that .223 pistols have either. I've only shot supersonic ammo through it so far but I'd imagine the subsonic rounds might be a bit different. I'm debating getting a 762-SDN-6 for it but we'll see....I have some other things coming up to spend some cash on.

Looks great! I'm in the same boat, now that i finished my PWS Diablo build with the SB15 brace. It's in .223 Wylde, it is loud. It's not insanely loud as everyone believes, it sounds a lot like a .308 (which, yeah, is loud for a 5.56) but i've made louder noises with cheaper guns.

My next one will definitely be in .300BLK. You'll have to let us know how it runs!

I used to laugh them off...

till I backed into an Olympic OA-93. The fella traded it along with a couple other sumpins due to its famous finickiness.

Took about three bench hours not counting test firing to get that rascall to digest anything and require little cleaning or lube.

Accurate and hard hitting with a great volume of fire.

Problem was, I did too good a job on it and a couple friends initiated an unsolicited bidding war on it and I let it go on down the road for obscene profit to me. Had I gotten around to suppressing it, I'd have never let it go.

Always got my eye open for another problem-child 93 - they really set the benchmark for me in AR pistols.

Many that are available today - compared to the dimensions of those old Olies - make me look at an SBR instead.

Welcome to the fun side.

If you are really thinking of getting the AAC suppressor, do it. I think it's very versatile since you can use it for both 300BLK and 5.56. I would like to do the same when I put my Trust together.

small red dot sights.....

I like the new .300aac blackout caliber but I don't get the push(popular style) of the new smaller/compact sights(red dot).
I saw many of them used in the recent crime drama: Sabotage, www.IMFdb.org .
Many guns posted on Instagram have them  & I guess they are good for hunting with compact rifles/SBRs.
Aren't the EOtech Holotech sights good anymore?
What am I missing?
I'm not a huge fan of the "pistol" type ARs but I'm not a huge collector or 3 gun match shooter.

The popularity of smaller red dots is for reducing weight. Even L3 has tried to go compact with the EOTech XPS, but at 8 oz it's still more than twice the weight of the 3.7 oz Aimpoint Micro T1. If someone still has a functional EOTech 512 that weighs 10 oz it may not be worth it to them to spend several hundred $ to save 6 oz, but if they're buying a new sight for a new rifle the lighter weight options make sense.

On the micro sights couple different things.

-First the weight, already explained. Won't go there except to say if you're trying to reduce weight EOTechs aren't your best best as they're chunky.
-I'm going to take a guess and say that most of the Micro's you're seeing on Instagram aren't Aimpoint T-1's, H-1's or the old R-1's, they're the Primary Arms Micro. They weigh the same amount and are the same size, but they're a little less rugged than the tanklike T-1's. Primary Arms is still pretty freaking good though and there are YouTube videos of people freezing them, dropping them from moving cars and bashing them against a tree and they still work.
-They also just had a sale at P.A. where the Micro's were on sale for $49. Amazing that you could beat something like that which costs only $49, but it's the truth.
-They just came out with another Micro that runs off a single battery for 50,000 hrs which rivals the T-1 and where you can just leave it on for 5.7 years of battery life. For a HD carbine that's the one to have. You just leave the thing on.

Why wouldn't you want a red dot that does everything the old model did (sometimes more) yet is smaller and lighteR?

Do you get why smaller flashlights (same or better brightness and runtime) are good? Same principle.

I don't know anything about Instagram, but for short or moderate distances a red dot would be great for hunting. Why wouldn't it be?

Aren't the EOtech Holotech sights good anymore?

Were they ever?

I think the question you mean to ask is...'are the new eotech sights reliable and durable, or are they failure prone like the old ones?'

What am I missing?
I'm not a huge fan of the "pistol" type ARs but I'm not a huge collector or 3 gun match shooter.

Smaller and lighter equipment that does everything the larger and heavier version does is generally preferred.

What makes you think it has anything to do with 3 gun or being a collector?

Posts, uses....

I guess I see the merits of these "micro" sights.
It just seems strange that in 4/5 years there seem to be such huge leaps in electronic/red dot rifle sights, .
I'm not against them. If they are light, easy to service/use & robust(hold up to rough conditions, shooting) then that's great.
They look kinda shrimpy & unreliable but I don't own any or shoot them.

I would think target shooters or 3 gun match users would propel most of the recent advances in small arms/industry T&Es since combat in SW Asia has now dwindled down.
I will look into these new generation red dot sights.
Thanks for the input. ;)

GB?....

Is the 2014 GB? As in Gigi Byte?
I'm not Mr Techno. :D

I did look at the EO Tech site. They have a SOCOM(special ops) type red dot sight with a added magnifier that's pretty slick.
It's approx $1709.00 USD  sooo I'm thinking that is a tad pricey.
The basic red dot EO sights aren't bad but I could see that $89.00 PA electronic sight being useful for the rifle owner/casual hunter.
If I were to purchase a new Stag Arms left hand 5.56mm M4 type with the 2L .300AAC Blackout upper I wouldn't think I would shoot past 300m or want/need a M4 for extreme ranges.
If I really want to do any extended hunting/target shooting, I'll buy a Ruger left hand Ranch Scout bolt action in 7.62mm. ;)

I really want one as a trunk gun.
Me too. Previously, I used a 7.62 Saiga with a folding stock, and intended on replacing it with another AK.

Now with the arm brace, I can have a .30cal just as short in my preferred platform...

I'm thinking about buying a barrel and collecting the rest as I can.

This thing started as a blemished lower from PSA. Installed the lower pistol kit from PSA. Couldn't find any suitable uppers so I took my Armalite upper to Wheaton Arms and had the barrel cut to 10.5", crowned, and threaded. It was back in my hands in a week. I still need a trigger guard but that's not going to keep me from slinging some lead this weekend.

I just had a fun thought.

9mm AR pistol, Sig brace, 'open' class at an ISPC shoot. What, it's a pistol!

Only difficulty I see in the rules is maximum magazine length is 170mm (6.7"). I don't think there are appropriate mags short enough.
