decisions and the rifle is being mailed to the store!
Hi all, Thanks again for the varied input. It has been interesting to add this to the collection before making the decision.
Anyway without further notes:
I am ending up getting a local store to transfer a Savage 111 Trophy Hunter for me and have it ready to pick up in a couple of days. Ultimately it came down to the following:
1. It's new (The least reason!)
2. I'm going to be using this to hunt, as such up here in the northwest where it rains a bunch in the fall, the synthetic is likely to hold up a bit better. (Ultimately I might replace the stock with a better one later.)
3. The new Savage has a good scope included. The Remington had a useless Simmons on it. So it was going to cost me another $200 or so to get decent glass on it.
4. Including a equivalent scope the Remington would have set me back about $650 -700. I will be getting the Savage for just over $500 including an extra $15 to the listed price since they need to ship it from another store.
That $150-200 gives me somewhere between 8-10 extra boxes of ammo to actually practice or add to the set up as in cheek pad, storage and transport case, carrying strap, scope cover, etc...
Some of which I have already secured with the after Christmas sales!
Will post a picture once I have it in hand!
