The last time I bought shells (about 6 months ago), I paid about $4.25 per 25 shells. I got a bulk mixture of Remington and some other stuff. I won't be paying $8.99 for shells, unless that's the price 10 years from now.
I haven't seen $4.25/box in over a year - cheapest 12 or 20 is running $5.50 buying by the case and using a coupon at Dick's. Fiocchi's and others run $8.99 and more now and aren't going to be getting any cheaper any time soon....
The $4.25 was some weird sale at a Big 5 in Northern California, but $4.25 still. I should have bought out the store. I spent about $370. The manager called 2 staff guys to help me carry the shells out to my car. I guess the manager was pro-gun. At the time (6 months ago), I remember Wal-Mart selling shells for around $5.
