Reading up at handgunlaw.us and see that car carry is prohibited unless the firearm is unloaded.

Am I reading this correctly? Heading through OK next week and want to make sure I'm clear on their laws.

FYI - I have NM and FL permits.

Thank you.
Robert

The gun must be unloaded in the vehicle ONLY if you do not possess a recognized permit. Oklahoma recognizes all other states' permits, so you may continue to carry your handgun loaded in your vehicle. For the moment it must remain concealed. On November 1st, open carry, with a permit, will become legal in Oklahoma.

Thanks for the clarification.

I usually carry loaded & in the center console on long drives. Don't enjoy being jabbed in the side for 14 hour drives.

Just realized I get the pleasure of driving through Illinois as well. Bleh. I'll make sure it's appropriately locked.

Can anyone tell me if I'll need my passport when I cross the United States/Illinois border? :what:

If you do encounter a LEO (ie, traffic stop), you better let him/her know you gotta CWP and a concealed weapon on first contact. That is the current law. Welcome to Oklahoma and Boomer Sooner.
