I'd like to get more info. on this old .22 rifle. I have heard about a "Chipmunk" .22 from a friend of mine and wonder if this is one of them since the gun seems to have one on the wood.

I can see that this gun is a Glenfield Model 60 and was made by the Marlin Firearms Company, North Haven Conn.

Is this gun made for adults, or more specifically for children who are just learning how to shoot?

Could the serial # help determine the manufacture date? Is this a popular/reliable gun?

Any information on this gun will be greatly appreciated!

Thats a Model 60 with a squirrel on the stock. The chipmunk is a small single shot bolt action made for kids. Two totally different guns.

Extremely popular rifle and very reliable, in my experience.

Take the first two digits of the serial number and subtract from 100. That will give year of manufacture. For example, if the serial starts with 24, then the rifle was made in 1976.

I got one just like it. Great rifle and extremely accurate. And FUN! Haven't shot mine in many years. Gotta get all my .22s out this year. Supposedly, the Glenfields were a bit better than the regular Marlin 60s.

Since this rifle isn't mine, and I'm fixing it for a family member, does anyone have an idea where I might be able to find one just like it with the squirrel stock for sale online? Most all I come across are just various parts or auctions that have already been closed.
