I picked up a used 870 Express today. It has two problems I am trying to sort out.
It is covered in small spots of rust (like it was left in a hard case too long) that are proving difficult to remove with a bronze brush, RemOil and elbow grease, and the "nut" that holds the forearm assembly together won't budge.
I think I need some better rust remover than gun oil and maybe some steel wool. Any ideas on a good oil or solvent to get rid of the rust but leave the finish?
And as for the nut, I usually use a plastic paint scraper I cut to fit on all of my other 870's but it isn't working on this one. I tried soaking it as well as I could (the wood forearm is attached so I don't want to submerge it) and using pliers to bust it loose but it won't budge. I've never seen one this tight!
Thanks for any help.
