Hey how did that Manurhin PP get in on the photoshoot? Probably felt left out when his Walther brethren were getting all of the attention!

I know because sometimes my Manurhin P1 gets the same way whenever people start talking about how nice the post-war Walther P-38s and P1s are!

What defines new versus old?
I have bought several firearms new in the box that I sold to fund a pre-owned firearm.
Currently there are two revolvers bought NIB, one pistol, two 22lr rifles.
All my other firearms are pre-owned from the CMP 1943 M1 to my Glock 34, all of them passed thru more hands than I care to think of.

Not wanting to put words in OP's mouth, but I understood it to be a juxtaposition of older versus newer firearms.

Whether that's owned longer, or manufactured earlier is kind of up to each person contributing--and has been a fascinating part of this thread.

The Colt web page has a serial number lookup function which can help nail down production dates.

Based on the serial number (122xxx), Proofhouse's look-up indicate the .32 Hammerless was made in late 1911 as 1912 started with a "124xxx" number. Colt's just says "1911".
The old, non-functional pistol has two rows of three numbers on the heel strap. When combined, Proofhouse indicates it was made in late 1903 as 1904 started with 225xxx. Colt just says 1903.

I think these are my oldest and newest respectively. a 1965ish High Standard Supermatic and a CZ75 cold war.

The new 22 revolver was purchased NiB earlier this year.

The old 22 revolver is from 1951-52, IIRC.

Ironic that the old one is a modern DA and the new one is based on the Model 1873.

Old is Smith & Wesson First Model, known as the Baby Russian, .38 S&W, made 1876 ~ 1877, uncommon 4" barrel. Revolver came from my grandfather's collection





New is CZ 75D PCR, 9mm, my new EDC, purchased August 2021.

Fascinating thread to go through and check out all the pix. Here's a contribution; my oldest semi-auto handgun, a circa 1916 Erfurt Luger.. along with a circa 1943 Spreewerk P-38.. and the newest; a Glock 19 purchased new in 2012.. ..... all in 9mm Luger, ( 9x19).

Grandads hammerless 1920s H&A #6 .32s&w vs my 1990s sp101 .357mag.


Grandad claimed that all the country boys carried a 'suicide gun' (as he called them). Back then the guys rode horses. Bicycles. Or walked wherever they went. There was a farm every quarter mile. Every farm had at least one dog.... that little. 32 was probably pretty comforting when you were walking home from town in the dark of night.

That's Whitney as in Ely Whitney who's manufacturing company made almost anything they could contract for.
