A friend asked me to un-jam granddad's .22 pistol which had been in the posession of his dad.
At first sight I thought it was a Hi Standard, but it's a Colt with a long slim barrel, marked on the left of the reciever "COLT AUTOMATIC .22 Long Rifle" with patent data on the top of the barrel (1903, 1919 I think) and no other marking as to model. At the top of the mainspring housing, where the web of the hand goes, is a small patch of checkering. The single magazine is marked Colt Woodsman, .22 L.R. on the bottom, but this doesn't look like any Woodsman I've seen.
No slide hold-open mechanism. Narrow rear notch and front bead for sights, non-adjustable. Finish appears baked-on rather than blued.
Disassembly is a lot like a Ruger initially. When I finally got it apart I found it had been improperly reassembled, probably after its last cleaning since it was sqeaky clean inside.
Serial # is on front grip strap and is staggered numerals in the 51,000 range.
Any ideas?
