Saturday I went to the gun and knife show in Norfolk. Good crowd, prices coming down on guns and ammo, but I digress.

The usual knife dealers were there, ranging from off shore junk ( Amazing how people are willing to pay 18 bucks for an A/O 440) to high dollar customs. As always there were 2 or 3 newbies looking to make the rent, electric, or beer money.

Newbie one had a table full of customs from South Africa, done by a guy nameded Boshoff (Sp) S30V with bone and horn handles ranging from 2 hundred to 1500 USD. Nice work! Too rich for me.

Anybody know of him?

Newbie # two, (not a very likable guy) had and assortment of all kinds of junk, like he was having a yard sale. Except for a cigar box with a few old, rusty dirty, broken, pocket knives. Mother load for the Doc!

Yep, I scored.

Got an old Imperial 3.5 inch stiletto with a yellow handle.

and
A Vann Camp hardware stockman with bone handle.

Both have walk and talk.

Both are dirty, and rusted and the blades look like the were sharpened by a chimp with a wood file - nothing I cant make make presentable.

The sad part is the guy said he got them from his grandfather and they have been lying around since the 70's. Said a small prayer to his grandpa that they will be restored and have a good home.

The stiletto will go in the collection drawer, the stockman may be a user.

Pics to follow later in the week.

HSO, Thanks.

Yes that is him. Pictures do not do his work justice.
Up close and personal, holding them in your hand, Wow, no Double wow.

Beautiful, quality, work, with top notch materials. I can only aspire to that level of perfect fit, finish, and design.

I have a couple of the elder Bauchop's knives and one of Rob's early folders given to me by a SA associate.

I really like finding the odd carbon steel blade kitchen knife.
Sad thing is recently people just pitch them. And sell the shiny cheap stainless ones..... And that is sad.

The HAPPY part is they went to YOU. You'll treasure them the way the chump wouldn't have done.Look at it this way...you rescued them!

People think I am weird because I was so pumped when I got all of my Grandma's 1960's set of Ole Hickory knifes. A few swips on a set of Arkansas stones and they shave hair right off your forearm. I also got my Greatgrandmothers and Grandma's Cast iron cookware.

Bikerdoc I saved and restored 3 Imperail/ Saber Barlows last summer I got the 3 for 5 bucks.

Good for you! It is just a lot of fun. We do the cast Iron thing also among other antiques. I got a chest of drawers, with provenance from a civil war Colonel. Ya, people think I am weird, I tell them when you pay my bills you can have a say!

If it is old carbon I can not resist. Some of the old Schrade CV are fun also.

I received quite a few old knives from my grandfathers and great-grandfathers over the years. I am interested in restoring a few of them and displaying them with my nice knives in my display case. Any websites or tips to working/restoring old knives?

Partial list of a few knives I received:
Prov. Cut. Co.
Old Timers
Barlows
Mklein and Sons
Tree Brand
Boker
Case
etc

I would love to have them all clean and shining to pay tribute to some great American men of times past.
