Old model single six

Looks like my '57 .22 lr, but a little prettier. The finish on mine is a little bit rougher.

Same here with my Single Six; spent a lot of time outdoors as my buddy used it to check his trap lines. When he quit the business he gave it to me. Took a bit of time and effort to clean it up, get new grips, and find a .22 Magnum cylinder. But it was all worth it. Turned out fairly nice and holds a special place in my revolver collection.

From 1959 to 1969 Ruger made a .22 Magnum only Single Six. In 1962 Ruger introduced the Single Six .22LR/.22 Magnum Model with both cylinders.

In the early '60's I purchased one of the mag only single sixes and didn't keep it for very long. It was less effective on my main targets of prariedogs and jackrabbits than my 22LR on using hollow points. Later it was determined that the early 22 mag ammo had too heavy jackets and didn't expand. I still grit my teeth every time I think of this. If I had just kept it a little longer. Oh, well, water long gone under the bridge.

Know your pain, doubleh. Had a convertible I purchased new in the late '60s. It was lightly engraved and a good shooter. The price? $110.00 sticks in my head.

For some reason, the engraving bothered me and I swapped it off a few years later. If I'd only kept it 'til I'd grown up a little, it would be worth something now. At least it taught me to hang onto the guns I've bought along the way.

Nice pistol you picked up. I have the 6" from the early 60s with both cylinders. My Dad got it when I was a kid. Carried that pistol in a holster everywhere we went out in the woods. She has a good bit of holster wear and nicks on her. I still take it to the range on occasion. Still accurate for what she is. I never paid any attention to the recall because I did not want it molested. I also had a little later 5 inch but she got stolen out of my apartment back in my college days.

Very nice.

My SS’s are newer models, but a nice three screw like yours, or an older Bearcat, would certainly get my wallet moving quickly from my pocket to the salesclerk. ;)

I must say that I really like the drift-adjustable only sights on the single six. I bought a new model Bisley that has as good a sight picture as my adjustable sighted single six does. :)

Congratulations on a great pickup, let us know how it shoots when you get a chance.

Stay safe.
