My 1977 marlin 336 in 35 Remington 20 inch carbine has been a good work horse for about 10 years for me. I was a barn gun given to me, it had more rust then bluing and the but shock had some small cracks. there is a small spot of pitting in the bore for about a inch, But does not make it shoot bad. I have killed many deer with this gun, one even a 275 by what the gps said. because of the rust i striped the finish and rust and camo painted it years ago. The paint held up good over the 8 or 9 years.

One day i was thinking id would like to make this gun different form the normal marlin 336, i wanted a shorter tube to make it look like the A model rifle. so i cut 8 and 5/8 of the tube, I got rid of the screw that hold in the tube cap and just soldered it in this gives it a nice clean look.

I was going to do a flush mag tube with the forend, but for now left it out some. i drilled out the tube plug to give me a 1/8 or so more room in the tube. The tube holds 4 rounds of 35 rem witch is nice doing this made the balance move so its better when u swing the rifle. Since the but stock was cracked i used a stock blank that was given to me, I re shaped it and did the fitting. I have a checkering tool but not all the cutter so i checkered the outside pattern and stippled the wood. I think it came out nice.

I id the same for the forend to. i was going to fit a Remington aluminum but plate to it, but i don't have what i need to do that here so that's put off for now. I would like to take a /2 inch off the butstock to. My Lyman peep is on there and a xs front sight is on, i may just use the original ramp and sight but it is beat up.the small cut is still in the barrel for the front band , I will weld that up one day. For the rear band it never had a screw in it just a pin and not a good one. since the one band has more work then normal, i drilled out the band and used a 3/16 roll pin. this holds the forearm very tight, i still have to cut the pin, i cut of about 5/8 of the forend because it was not doing anything.

The rifle still has most of the paint on it, that will be stripped when i get it ready for bluing. I hope u like the gun i think it looks different then most marlins, thanks. troy.

The stock looks great. But I really want to see her after she’s been blued. Cause man she looks rough. But if she’s still a shooter, no reason not to invest in a new blue dress and take her to the dance.
thanks the metal will clean up, most of what u see is half scraped off paint. I work at a gun shop that does bluing so no cost.

View attachment 807980 one more of the right side, sorry for the bad photos. i was going to do a strait grip but did not have what i needed here to make it work.

I had to chuckle at myself a litlle at this. I know it's just a matter of individual preference, but on my few levers that have straight grips, ala my 1894 and one of my Henry's, I've been wanting to do the exact opposite and customize them by replacing the straight grips with curved grips to match my 336.

the 35 rem is a great little cartridge, the killing power is kind of magical in that it works better then it should.

My state doesn't allow bottlenecked cartridges, straight wall only. I picked up a 357max barrel for my Encore, I should be able to sling the same 35 cal bullets at about the same speed. Im really looking forward to this rifle season.

yes the maximum is very slimier in power, i am looking for a gun to stick the 357 in. if i had a beat up marlin 1894 i think i could make it fit.
