My uncle has an old S&W revolver we are trying to identify but having little luck so far. Here's what we do have to have:

On the original box it says: S&W .38/32 CTG 2" Blue
On the barrel it's marked: .38 S&W CTG
The serial number is: 53816

The gun is in excellent condition with little wear. My uncle claims he has owned the gun for 30 years... bought it from guy who owned 40 years before which, assuming the original owner bought it new, would date the thing 1939.

Can anyone shed some more insight on this thing??

Thanks

Mo

Looks like you have a .38/.32 Terrier Pre-War. I frame hand-ejector built. Based off of the .38 Regulation Police. Built from 1936 to 1940.

Thanks warman...what do you think the value would be at 95% in box?

Well, sounds like it is a nice one. There are more experienced posters that will give you a better idea on the current market price.
As far as "Book" price as new in box = $1750 , Excellent = $500 and on down. Book prices aren't always concrete prices but they will give you an idea.
Sounds like a great S&W, hope you get what you want for it.

Thanks again warman... it won't be for sale as it will eventually be mine and kept as a family heirloom.
