Hey gang,

Do you guys remember the older ASPs? If I remember they had a different roughend texture that is no longer available. Could you guys post a pic if ya got it?

Thanks,
Dave

John, honestly man I am not sure, I just recall back years ago when these first came out they had just a base coating on the handgrip portion that didn't add any girth to it at all, unlike my foam covered version. Also, if I am recalling correctly, the batons seemed thinner back then. Maybe I was thinner!! Anyway man thanks.

Just sitting here talking with my wife, who was a cop in Texas in the late 1990's - she says her first ASP was "textured," knurled or checkered like a Mag-lite. The one I recently bought her seems to have more of a foam rubber sleeve for a grip.

ASP's and others were originally checkered, a lathe technique that basically turned light threading at cross angles. Knurling is a process of impressing a tool that was rotated around the circumference, which left an upset pattern, often chevrons.

My cheap copy of an ASP is lathe checkered, and friction fit. The later foam handled versions used a locking button that release it from extension more easily than pounding it on the pavement.

Dave,

If you're talking about the actual grip, ASP has at least 2 different grips. You may be thinking about the Duratec grip. My Federal version has this grip, but I can't show you a close-up, since it's 4500 miles away, but if you follow the link, you can magnify. :)
