I acquired what appears to be an older (or perhaps neglected) 20 gauge shotgun from my father just under a year ago.
Supposedly a friend of his bought some property in the Phoenix area and found it in a bush.
It looks like time and weather has taken it's toll on it.
Among the rust and the broken stock, the firing pin looks to be missing, as well as the trigger guard.
I've recently taken interest in it, and tried to get some info on it, but didn't find much.
Anyone have any info on this shotgun?
Would it be worth salvaging or does the rust look too pitted?

Sorry about the picture quality, cell phone is the best I can muster right now.

It looks like it says
"SELECTED FORGED STEEL

On this side I can read
"PROOF TESTED - 20 GAUGE
2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER" on the barrel and
"STEVENS
SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION
CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A." on the plate.

Under the handguard, on the barrel, it looks like two arrows pointing to the right (with the gun upside down) followed by "P Y"

It appears to be an old Stevens single made in about the 1940-50 range. Unless you would get a great deal of personal satisfaction out of fixing it back I think I would sell it for parts. Replacement stock will run $50.00, Trigger guard around $20, Firing pin $15.00 - $20.00 + whatever time you spend on getting it going yourself. Generally a gunsmith don't do much of anything for less than $50.00 so figure that also unless you can install everything. These old singles can generally be found in decent shape for $125.00 to $150.00 so it will not be a money maker. Here's a link to Gun Parts if you decide to repair & best of luck! It may take a bit to match it up on a model #:

What about the rust and the pitting everywhere?

Rust can be removed with 30 weight motor oil and steel wool to a degree. Pits can generally only be removed by draw filing. It could be cold blued after you get that done. Were you able to find out which model you have and any replacement parts?
