If you're talking to him, though, do ask him why I no longer have access to his most luscious images, which I was more than happy to publicize for him in places like this. The ones with the pliers gripping women's nipples, and like that. I always wondered why the subjects of those images didn't whip out their trusty sidearm and shoot Mr. Volk in the head, myself ...

But hey, always nice to see the applause for some more pig-ignorant exploitation of women as objects in the service of somebody's pig-ignorant cause.

There seemed to be more intelligent discussion/critique on Sociologicalimages, definitely. There was a lot of blind hate at DU.
 
I waded through as many of the comments on both links as I could and.....

Now, I am a bigger fan of Mr. Volk's work than ever before. His images are timeless and very worthy of discussion. I am not someone who writes fan letters but Mr. Volk's work is terrific and I am a fan.

I appreciate the fact that the High Road is just that; the High Road. Even though I may have upset a couple of other members a time or two I appreciate being allowed to post here.

No, there are two important differences between here and DU:
1) the mods here mostly don't ban people for saying things they disagree with.
2) people here that the mods agree with still don't get to behave like iverglas does

Some of the mods here suck, but overall there is infinitely less abuse of power than at DU. You are free to say things that the mods disagree with here and you usually have to piss them off repeatedly to get banned.

IMO, DU hurts progressives a great deal by refusing to allow any dissent while allowing the party faithful to engage in any uncouth behavior they wish. A lot of people that might otherwise be open to their BS are probably banned before anyone has a chance to convince them of anything.

In some ways yes...just in reverse-image..a reverse image that; due to constraints placed on the membership by the moderators, in accordance with Oleg's wishes, features less profane language.

Think about it...how often do you see "lib-bashing" here...

I think this is a rather fine lesson in evaluating how perspective and paradigm affect the way a person both thinks and feels about something. For example, within this particular community (THR) many of Oleg's views are probably considered VERY "liberal" by many members...

...while over on DU he is considered some kind of misogynist pig lord. :eek:

Some of the comments over on DU reveal that until a person's PERSPECTIVE is altered...their mind will never be changed.

Sort of like a supporter of medical malpractice "reform" who wakes up after surgery to find they had the wrong kidney taken out...and who then finds that the system isn't really so great for plaintiffs.

...all that being said...bully to those who jumped over and provided cogent and well thought out statements bolstering the notion that human life is worth defending. :D
 
Are you referring to the regular libs, the bleeding heart libs or the women's libs?

I know for a fact I've never bashed either of two Jaredite kings named Lib in the Book of Mormon.

I was banned many years ago at DU. After only one or two pleasantly polite posts. Think of the time I've saved.

Ah, Democratic Cesspool. Every now and again- by which I mean like once a year- I read some threads over there just to remind myself of how the other side thinks. A lot of it frightens me... but it's like a train wreck, and I just can't look away sometimes.

But seriously, not a whole lot of intellectual give and take over there, serious amounts of bashing going on, and not a lot of civility. I would consider it an honor to have most them think poorly of me. Just think, as rude as they are to each other can you imagine how they would act towards anyone who they really didn't agree with?
 
The DU mods ban anyone who's ideas upset them. It's classic PC thinking. Not surprisingly I got booted twice after a few posts. Everything I came to hate about my former friends on the left is wrapped up in that website.
 
Yup, the banning of anyone who doesn't toe the line is, to me, the defining characteristic of DU. I guess it's easier just to play off one another and have back-slapping matches.

Granted, I imagine that's what THR would look like to a lot of outsiders... but at least we don't ban folks just for disagreeing.
 
Iverglas is relatively easy to shut down. Make her stick to a point and do not be distracted by the fifty million other arguements she pulls out of her derriere.

I am surprised I havent been banninated there yet.:D
 
I got banned almost immediately (4+ years ago) after I suggested that the reason the Democrats were failing as a party was because they had betrayed the conservative base that used to make up the Solid South. I opined that without allowing the party to contain a large block of conservative members, the Democrats were going to remain a minority party.

I told them that the problem wasn't the message, it was that no one wanted what they were selling down here. So, yeah. Banned.
 
The DU discussion is funny. I was tempted to register simply to reply to the gross inaccuracies of one of iverglas's posts, but alas, I must wait 24 hours because I didn't want to give them a non-free e-mail address... Unfortunately, I don't think I could stand returning to that forum for a second time, so if anyone who currently does have an account there wants to reply to post 38 on that topic, with the following wiki link, please do: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Sanger#Eugenics_and_euthanasia (of course such a reply would probably get you banned...)

It's amazing how "progressives" are so unaware of their own ideological history... (If you haven't read Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg yet, it's a fascinating read).

The discussion over at sociologicalimages is much better for us. Although, I think the fact some THR members have been posting over there may explain that :p Hopefully the discussion over there leads some people to help change their minds, or at least examining their own views regarding gun control. I just wish there were some forums that a lot of non-hardcore antis or fence-sitters hung out at that didn't ban people with non-PC views regarding guns... I think it would be so much easier for us to sway people over to our 'side' if there were such a place, as typical anti arguments get steamrolled in Internet debates where everyone can take as long as they need to compose their responses, and cite references. Does anyone here know of such a site? It might be a nice bit of activism.
 
I think I might have been banned from that site after one or two posts a few years ago. If you don't toe the party line, you get removed. Sort of a model for what society would be like if some of those people were put into power and their utopian visions were made reality.
 
I need to stay away from that site, even the brief visit was strongly tempting my old habit of tilting at windmills and it was all I could do not to waste way too much time replying in detail to far too many of the posts.

As a friend reminded me recently, "Tilting at windmills hurts you more than it hurts the windmills."
