What is the deal with Olympic Arms? Do they make a good AR or not? I went to one site and a couple of guys said to stay the heck away from them, their product was inferior. I've heard differently in person. One shop owner I actually trust (yeah, I know...but I know the guy) said that Olympic Arms had trouble some time ago because they were using cast receivers. Now they are using forged receivers and that fixed the problem. All I want to know is do they make a good rifle.

They make a decent rifle, I have heard of two failures and they replaced the whole rifle in a timely manner, The only manf. to stray away from is hesse/vulcan, now that is bad news,

very good rifles

I bought a AR 15 from them. I had a tour of the factory and got to watch them make the upper and lower on the computer controlled machines. Please excuse me for not knowing the correct term for the machines. All upper and lowers are made together at the same time and matted. Mine has no play between them.

Oly also makes there own barrells and hand cuts the rifling in. I saw them do it. Mine shoots very well, I can not tell you how well as it is my working patrol rifle. It outshoots me and the bushmaster my department issues. I was told my ar would shoot minitue of angle or better, do i get it mybe, but I know that it shoots and has never jammed on me.

Oly makes some of the best ar and rifle barrels that fly under the radar.

Oly puts a life time warranty on their products no quastions asked. You break it and they fix it. for the first sixty days they will change anything out to make you happy.

I would say give them a call and see what they can do for you. I would recommand them to anyone.

If it's your working patrol rifle, then it must be good. After all, that would have to be reliable as hell. It outshoots the Bushmaster? Well, well....I checked the crazy people out at AR15.com. I don't think I'll ask anything there again. Boy do they hate Olympic Arms. Yet no one can say how many they've had fail or seen fail or how they failed. Interesting. I'm considering a particular model that is going for a good price. It's the light tactical rifle/carbine with the quad rail, nice pistol grip, and flip up rear sight aperture that has different settings. Normally, it sells for about $1200 or more. The shop I go to got it on a closeout sale and is advertising it for $919. I'm kinda caught between that and a nice, barely used DPMS AP4 .308.

Jazor, thanks for the personal experience info. I had heard that they were putting out good stuff.

Jon, yeah I know about Hesse. Awful stuff, that.

I owned a Olyarms AR15 a few years ago at the same time as having a Colt 6920 M4 and it was just as reiable as the Colt. Oly makes a good AR. I would buy one again in a hearbeat.

i've got an early cast plinker model.
after break-in,runs like a champ.
quite accurate and very tight upper to lower fit.
outa 5 of my ar's,it gets shot the most:cool:

The only manf. to stray away from is hesse/vulcan, now that is bad news

No kidding! A friend of mines father had one of the earlier Vulcans and hated it so much he actually traded it even for a old, rusty, beat to hell mini 14. The overall quaility of the Vulcan AR was the worst I have ever seen on a AR.

Built two on Oly MX lowers about 3 years ago. Everything went together well, both rifles are reliable. Only thing I have noticed is the magwells are on the tight side of spec. I would not hesitate on building on a forged Oly lower.

My buddy had an Oly AR, and he really liked it. Money issues forced him to sell it to another buddy of mine, and thus far he really likes it. I can't understand why anyone would hate on them, as I never noticed any issues with the gun at all.

I've been told by a few people that OlyArms makes a good product. I have not first hand (or 3rd hand) knowledge otherwise.
