Why would anyone carry intermittently?
My guess is some may think it unnecessary in the "good area" where they are going to the store, walking, or whatever.
But... when they go to a "bad area" or area of perceived greater threat then they carry.
That philosophy apparently thinks "bad" people are immobile, you have to go to them.
Or perhaps there is a crystal ball or budding psychic ability that allows them to know the actions of others in advance.

I live in a "good area" but in FL people have cars (or they could steal one) and show up uninvited and unexpected on a little field trip of mayhem in my "good area"; its low odds that might happen on a given day, but if it does I'd rather be carrying than not. So, lacking a crystal ball and psychic ability I just carry whenever I'm dressed and keep a pistol handy otherwise.

Because I am close to four major military bases (taking a firearm on base is prohibited for everyone), shop at the commissaries. exchanges, package stores, use the hospitals and pharmacies, there are a couple times a month that I do not carry. On those occasions, I drive straight to the base and straight home, no stops, praying for no crazed road-rage encounters (we've had a significant number of road rage-related shootings in the area over the past couple of years) along the way (I seem to be a magnet for these aggressive a$$clowns).

Otherwise, on every other typical day, I am carrying. I'm also one of those who doesn't understand the concept of intermittent carrying. There are no "good areas" anymore and there's no cop on every block anywhere.

Running errands, shopping, restaurant, trip to the store, walk around the neighborhood, are you usually carrying?
Yes, where I live, I would add home and church, plus carrying a nickel plated M29 to our local BBQ gatherings.

This Mojave rattler was coiled between the Mrs carrying groceries and our front door, it's now been relocated to a hat band.

I've lost count on rattler encounters on the ranch over the years, then there's the encounter with an enforcer, with prison tats everywhere, at the front gate with his 1911/38Super in an open cross-draw, me? My left hand held a leash to a GSD and there was a 686P on my right hip OWB. Then there was a well organized attempt to gain access to inside the home front and back, what used to be a safe neighborhood hasn't been safe for the past three years. There's more, what I carry gets used sooner or later, rattlers, coyotes and validated stock killers; but my background is different from most forum members. :)

I see, and know from those who have legit worries or carry for a living:

Medical procedures
Medical imaging
Court, when not LE in the course of their duties
Etc etc etc.

No one living in normal society carries literally 100%. I am comfortable with wide interpretations of "usually."

When I'm doing all of those things, yes, I'm carrying. None of those things happen during a typical day for me though, so I didn't vote.

Question ? When would you pull your gun when confronted by an unarmed person that looks a little sketchy and is approaching you ?
I probably wouldn't. There's a reason why you carry less lethal Force Multipliers.

When would you shoot an unarmed person ?
When I can clearly articulate a specific action that the unarmed person is taking that would cause any reasonable person in my position, knowing what I know in the moment to feel that there was a credible threat to their life

think everyone that carry’s needs to ask themselves that question and know the answer . The answer is probably
Almost never

Not sure what state you reside in, or whether you are retired or not, but that is most definitely not strictly true in many states; you may want to check applicable statutes in every state you may desire to carry.
Retired NYPD Detective, Florida and yes, there are some restrictions you are correct, however, in my understanding House Resolution 218 allows the holder to carry concealed in the 50 states.

Except for unusual situations, I carry any time I'm further away from home than the driveway. My wife and I own our own business, and it's gotten to the point that she's a little uncomfortable when I'm not carrying at work.

At home, I've gotten out of the habit of wearing a gun, and I hope that doesn't come back to bite me - I've chosen comfort over security, and there are times when I'm several rooms away from the nearest gun.

Thanks, bearcreek! Your answer is a lot more concise and to the point than mine. A "typical day" for me is probably not the same as a "typical day" for a lot of other people on the world-wide-web. However, some of those "other people" either can't, or won't believe that. ;)

Around the house and while working in the back yard I use to carry a KetTec P3AT in my right front pocket. Nowadays I added a Ruger LCP Max to the line-up just for a little bit extra capacity, so same pocket with a tad more firepower.

The basic rule for me is everywhere outside my front door (I live in an apartment building), even if going 50 yards to the nearest grocery store. After more than 15 years of daily carry, I feel almost naked without having a handgun - even when going to the beach on my summer vacation I do carry.

I live on 40 acres in a remote area. Very remote. I often carry on the property, but not always.

But every time I head outside the gate, I am armed. Obviously, whenever I have to enter a GFZ, the tools stay in the vehicle. Carry during medical appointments is something I'm currently reevaluating.

I hate being unarmed when I'm out in public.

I carry any time I go out, unless I’m going into NY (I live right near the border) or the post office or the school to shoot hoops with my wife.
I absolutely hate it when I must leave the hardware home.

I carry every day, and have for years.
At lunch at the original Texas Roadhouse with friends yesterday, toted along a Glock 36 and a couple of spare mags in a Milt Sparks IWB. That pistol carries well for me, even though it has apparently never been a popular model of the Austrian company.

Yes, I always carry when/where I legally can. Now that I am retired it is much easier. Before retirement it wasn't allowed by my employers.

I have three different handguns/types that I will throw in my pocket for EDC.
1 - LCPII 380acp It gets carried a lot less since I moved away from the sticky south.
2 - Kimber R7 9mm. My I'm going to Wal-Mart and may need more capacity carry.
3 - j frame 38 special (I have three different options). Super comfortable, safe, and reliable.

I carry everywhere I legally can carry. Setting around the house I'm carrying. Running errands I'm carrying. In the shower my revolver lays on the sink easy to grab. When sleeping I have a holster clipped on bedframe so an easy grab if something goes bump in the night. If I have to run into a place that doesn't allow me to carry holster stays on gun gets locked in car then returns to holster soon as I can.
