Just a question on calibers, is there anybody out there, that prefers to only own & shoot 45acp pistols. I'm just curious to see, if some of you out there prefer to stick to one caliber, like 9mm,45acp,357,40s&w, etc, and why,is it convienence, maybe thats all you reload, ease of use, more used to it's recoil, trust that caliber more for lethality etc. I currently have 3-9mm's and 5-45acp's, and i'm considering going all 45acp because i do plan to reload it in the future, just for alot of the reasons mentioned above. Am i the only one that thinks this way?

Just one is enough.

Makes things very simple for us.

it is easier to feed 12 and 20 gauge instead of 45 ACP.

My spouse is going to learn to shoot that caliber and like it. HOWEVER... if the gun is too much for her and we have to go to another one that she can actually shoot, we will do so.

But only if that paper says we do at the 7 yard line.

9mm

and

.223

Makes it simple and generally easy to find ammo.

Also a 12 Gauge

I have 7 calibers in my handgun collection, but prefer the 40S&W. Mainly because I consider it a good all around multi purpose round. Also, before all the crazy big ammo grab started it was pretty affordable to practice with, not as cheap as 9mm but reasonable.

9mm for me - 3 pistols and 1 sub2000 that all shoot the 9mm , easy to just stock up on one caliber of ammo and easy to reload the mags with same caliber instead of sorting thru diff piles and such ? plus its the cheapest ammo for gun range in my size of weapons (22 is too little for my interest?)
i just stock pile as much 9mm ammo as i can get my hands on when i have the extra bucks and i always set half of my pile aside for future need (the ammo i set aside in my ceder chest , i pretend that it dosent exist and forget about and keep adding to it whenever possible)

if i had as many 45 caliber fire arms as you do , i would do the same as i am now with 45 caliber ammo , havent priced 45 ammo in quite some time , but i do recall it costing a bit more than 9mm ??

Interesting how this subject keeps popping-up nowadays, I suspect that concern about the economy is driving some to consider this.

I prefer .45ACP, worked my way up in pistol calibers and don't plan to go back down -except for .22lr. Gotta have .22lr.

Already don't keep any .38 spl, .357 magnum, .40SW and when the .357 SIG and 9mm run out, dunno when I'll buy more.

Not as much economic reasons as I just have no urge to shoot these guns anymore. M1911s in .45ACP is fun and challenging enough for me. The only time I drag the other calibers out is to take people shooting for their first time.

thats a pretty extensive collection,...the most i had at one time was 5- 22lr,380,9mm,40s&w & OC -45acp, i've owned others like in the revolver calibers, but 5 is the most at one time and i thought even then that there was to much going on there, but not that theres anything wrong with it, i never could get used to the 40s&w though.

I was going to say yes, but that would be incorrect, once my brain actually started functioning. I currently have .45acp, .45 Colt, .38 S&W, and .22lr.
I shoot .45 Colt the most..well, .22lr, actually. Then .45 Colt, then .45 ACP, then .38 S&W. Don't have reloading gear yet for .38 S&W or .45 ACP, so those may change. :)

Well, that's it for cartridges, anyway. I'm really loving Cap & Ball shooting, too.

I'm down to being able to shoot everything I've got with 9x18, .32 acp, and 22lr.

I have not decided if I'm going to replace my 45 acp or go for a .357 next...I'll shoot my new S&W 63 for awhile and see if I catch the revolver bug.

I have a Les baer in 45acp and 38 super, Springfield Omega 10mm, and a FN Hi Power 9mm, almost forgot Ruger MII 22lr. I am looking to add a NAA 22 mag. My Dad has me keep most of his guns and says their mine. Ruger GP-100, Taurus Judge 410/45lc, S&W pre model 10 38 special.

Just one would be nice, and far easier to handle, but I have 23:

while in theory, this would be nice, at least for ease and conveinience of ammunition. it does not seem to make much sense to me. the reason there are so many different calibers (and pistols) is to do different jobs. if a 38 special could stop a grizzley, an elk, and a drug crazed criminal with very little recoil, that would be great. but there is usually a direct link between power and recoil / muzzle blast. understandably, not everyone wants to shoot a 45/70 revolver, and on the flip side, not everyone wants a 25 auto. most of us fall somewhere in the middle. and many opt for several different handguns for different jobs. me included.

I have idea. Borrowed from the NIKE shoe people.

Buy a tiny bullet.

Attached to that bullet is a pull cord.

When bullet is loaded into magazine and is racked into the gun's chamber or cylinder... pull the safety cord and cause the bullet to inflate a airbag to properly fit a caliber.

Then proceed to shoot gun.

Diversification and variety

I don't like to eat the same thing for dinner every day, and I don't like shooting the same handgun caliber all the time. I believe in variety, so I have 9 different handgun calibers and 4 times that many handguns. It is more fun that way.

My most commonly used are .45 and .38/.357, but I also like 9mm and .40. But things like 10mm, .44 magnum, .380 and .22 add variety.

I've got a 1911 5" Bbl. and a S&W 625 .45 ACP in full moon clips
but it also chambers/fires .45 Auto Rim. I did get a CZ 75B close to
a year ago in 9mm Luger for a cheaper range option. I also have a
pair of S&W 357 Mag, a 686P and a 60 w/3" Bbl. but don't shoot them
very much. The 617 10 shot .22 LR is the other handgun that gets a
lot of work - cheap but FUN.

I also have a Marlin 1894 20" bbl. in .45 Colt but not a handgun
chambered for that cartridge.

Pretty sure the next hadgun will be chambered in 45 ACP
for CCW.

Caliber variety isn't a big deal to me so much as platform variety.

I'd never own a 38 super 1911 and a .45 ACP at the same time, but I would and do own a .45 1911 as well as an ACP revolver.

All of my autoloaders are .45 ACP except one, and all of my wheel guns are .38/.357 except one.

But as of late, i've really been a .357 only guy. I just have no desire to go chasing after brass right now, so my revolvers have been getting a lot of play time.

I own 9mm, .357 (therefore also .38 special),40sw,and 45acp.

If I had to pick just one I'd be torn between the .357 and .45 ... then I'd likely choose .45

If I was content with 9mm I could use that in all my handguns.

My caliber is based on what sized gun I want to carry, and I allways want to carry the largest caliber available for that sized gun if it still shoots the big stuff well.

For example:
tiny gun- Keltec P32, .32 ACP ( I know, should have got the P3at)
small guns- Glock 26 9mm, Walther PPS 9mm, Kahr 9mm
Compact, medium sized- Glock 19,23,38, 9mm .40, .45GAP
Full sized- M1911a1, Glock21, Glock 20, .45ACP, 10mm

Obviously 10mm won't work in a tiny gun and I'd love to use a 3" 1911 in .45, as a small gun but I've yet to find a reliable 3" 1911. (only 5's for me:scrutiny:)

I have guns in both cabibers and feel the 9mm is a bit better on stopping power than the .45, when JHPs are used. The 9mm also is somewhat more versatile in its loads and bullet weights than a 1911 .45. If you have a Sig or S&W, it won't be a problem, but I like lighter weight .45 bullets (185gr JHPs).

For a bugout bag and survival weapon, ammo also is lighter in 9mm. Being able to grab a pistol,a few 20-round magazines and ammo and hit the road makes the 9mm more attractive, especially in +P JHPs. The .45 ammo is just a bit too heavy.

I shoot .45ACP mostly -

occasionally .22LR for plinking

even less frequently .44 Mag for backcountry protection from critters...

Maybe by percentage, 95% .45ACP and 5% for the other two.

Looks like alot of different point of views, kinda what i expected, i really do plan on starting to reload the 45acp, with the current supply and demand, prices are really up there, & walmart hardly ever has my favorite 45acp WWB,i'd get blazer brass but to messy.I think what happens as soon as the ammo comes in someone goes in and bulk buy's it, thank's the Obama scare which i personally think is blown out of proportion right now. buts thats OMO...:banghead:

2 9mm's
1 .38 super
1 .45 with a .22 upper
1 .22

When I buy bulk ammo, it's either 9mm or .22, seems easier that way.
