21766709_1473572052721532_87972453018065885_n.jpg I have two .44 Magnum 4" and one .44 Special.I have a Ruger Redhawk & a Smith &Wesson 69. My Charter Arms Bulldog is my .44 special. I want a 5" or 6" Special, but can't make up my mind what brand name to buy in the $ 700.00 to $ 850.00 price range.I really would like to find a cheaper one but i'm willing to spend the price I posted here.

Barrel is a little shorter than you want but I have my eye on that Ruger GP100 in 44 Special.

I've heard rumors of the GP100 44 special being offered in longer barrels in the future but nothing concrete, might be worth waiting a bit to see if it happens. Or email them and show your interest, might make it happen!

Several good choices out there.

A used S&W 624 or 24 would be good options. My 4" 624 is good and I am looking for a 6"-6.5" version.

The 44 Special Ruger Blackhawk is another. I think they are available in a couple different barrel lengths but don't quote me on that. Mine is a 5-1/2" barrel and I think a 4-5/8" barrel is available.

The 5" barrel Ruger GP100 would be a nice gun. I have not seen one yet except as a catalog item. I have the short barrel version and it is a good shooter.

An S&W Model 69 is an option although it is chambered for 44 Magnum. I shoot hot 44 Special style loads in 44 Magnum cases in mine. I really do prefer the size of an L frame over an N frame except with full power 44 magnum loads.

Ruger is also supposed to have another distributor special GP100 .44 SP out in a while. It will be a blue 5" bbl. with 1/2 lug.

In SA I would get a Ruger BH but if were looking for a DA I would go with a S&W 69. The 69 is lighter than the Ruger GP100 and you would have to option of 44mag. I have more than one 44 and 45 but now days I carry either a Charter Arms Classic Bulldog [19oz] or a Ruger New Model Blackhawk 45 [36oz]. Now that deer season is coming I will carry the extra weight of the BH..

Smith M69 is what I ended up with after looking at the .44 special G100 for a long time. I love my .357 GP100, and I found the M69 to be everything I wanted in a .44 cal revolver. The M69 is, for me, a .44 special with magnum capability. Accurate and fun to shoot. I load Acme 240 gr SWC over 7.5 grains of Unique in magnum cases. Great load and accurate too.
