There are a lot of available options in stocks for your Colt's for under $150.00 (Sometimes well under). But you will find them listed under the Python model, and not the 357. Expand your search and see.
I read a really great true story a couple of years ago about an operative of some kind in West Berlin during the Cold War who had multiple occasions to use his Colt 357 to save his life. Wish I could find it to direct you to it. Anyway, here's mine. I have three styles of grips for it, but I like these.
Hawkeye I believe the story you are referring to was on the Colt forum about 2-3 years ago as I remember reading it as well. I just looked and couldn't find it. Maybe Dfariswheel remembers?
Yes, that's how I'd describe the action on mine. In fact, I have a 1970s Python, and the 357 has a slicker action. Finish is just as nice on the 357 too. Really, the only difference is the style of barrel.
Goodfind! I just got a Python for $300.00. Not to like rub it in or anything! But it was a freind, at least he is NOW! 6in BTW....see it in apic at got the python pics....HA!
