One of them little flat pistols, maybe?

I know I've said that the Shield Plus might well be the last carry pistol I ever buy. For belt carry, I still think that's true. With that said, I've been toying with the idea of a different pocket pistol for those rare occasions that I pocket carry. For several years, I've achieved pocket carry with with an LCR. It's certainly a nice little revolver, but I've been contemplating one of those little flat pocket pistols, like an LCP. I'd prefer 9mm to .380, but I guess, maybe, possibly, I could give .380 a chance.

So, denizens of THR, I'm looking for a flat pocket pistol in at least .380 and preferably 9mm. Here's what I have:
1. LCP
2. LC9
3. Kahr CM9

What else needs to be on The Long List?
LCP carry’s in any pocket but it’s so small it will move on you. Works great for tight golf or dress shorts.

LC9 prints like crazy in the above attire, but were it shines is in Blue Jean pockets like 5:11’s. You don’t print at all and stays ready to draw.

don’t own a Kahr

I like the standard LCP, the second generation, not the LCP II. The thing that makes it really work for me is the Ruger 7 round extended magazine. Has little to no negative affect on carry and 7+1 in a very flat, light pocket pistol with enough grip to hold. I also think the slightly longer grip makes it a bit more stable in the pocket.

I have & carry a LCPII .380, LaserMax Green Gripsense laser, Desantis SoftTuck either pocket or IWB. 13Desantis.jpg 4-Ruger LCPII Laser.jpg

I pocket carry an LCP Max a lot. It’s mainly from being just so darn easy to do! I know it’s not a great defensive tool but it is definitely better than nothing. I carry it with the 12 round mag.

These days, I feel that I should replace it with a 9MM. Haven’t don’t that yet. I hope I don’t ever regret that decision.

I've tried almost all of the micro 380's and own several small 9mm's.

For me, the 9mm's are really too large to be pocket guns.

The trigger is much better on the LCPII than any other other micro 380's. It also has decent sights. The others were all retired as soon as I got it.

I always consider how easy it is to draw a pistol while sitting and standing, and I don't like to have clothing in the way of my draw.

I carry the LCPII a lot when the weather is cooler. It's perfect for a breast pocket. I can draw it easily, sitting or standing, and nothing is in the way.

A micro 380 is also good for a back pocket that's too small for a revolver, but I only do that when I'm walking the dog or hiking and I know I won't be sitting.

An LCR or 642 is good for cargo pockets (or if hiking in jeans with large back pockets).

I don't understand front pocket carry. Slow to draw even if you're standing, and almost impossible if you're sitting/driving.

If you are thinking that the LCR is a wee bit large for your pockets, then LCP sized guns or maybe something slightly larger are the way to go.

For pocket guns, I have or had NAA Guardian .32 ACP, Taurus TCP (same size as an LCP), Remington RM380, and J-frame snub nose revolvers. Even an old Beretta Bobcat.

For me, the absolute sweet spot size for my pockets, my hands, and shootability has been my RM380. Which is a tad larger than an LCP.

If you came across the gun the RM380 was designed from, the Rorhbaugh R9 in 9mm, that sure would be a fine contender and get you up to the 9mm you prefer.

Just need the right pocket holster for the type of pants being worn. My TCP (LCP sized) doesn't move at all and it's in a plain jane leather Hunter pocket holster trimmed to fit with a pair of shears.

For me, the KelTec P3AT and now my Ruger LCP MAX, are both very easy to pocket carry. I have several holsters to choose from and they're all very concealable and do a great job of keeping the gun in place when it's inside the front pocket.

I also have a SIG P365X, that while it's truly flat, it's also a bit too big and heavy for me to go with pocket carry. I feel much more comfortable, with the help of a DeSantis SOF-TUCK IWB holster, carrying it this way for CCW.

Beretta Pico if you can live with the grip. Hinged mag release and true DAO trigger make it stand out from the crowd if those things matter to you. I took the banana base plate on the mag to the sander to make it flush. Better than the flush fit mag but not so odd looking. Good quality stainless construction, polished mags with steel followers, modular design, useful metal sights.

Btw - I just purchased a shield plus myself. Without even taking it to the range I can tell it's a game changer.

Pretty amazing Beretta just flat out discontinued that model. All they need to do was release a better grip module. Still doesnt make sense to me. From a quality and design standpoint they are the most well executed and micro pocket 380s I have ever seen. Somehow goofed on the grip but thats an easy fix.

Been carrying a LCP ever since the 1st version came out, traded up for all the new ones.
So that's my choice for a true pocket carry, regular shorts and jeans not cargo size pockets
The only 9mm that will fit in my regular pockets in the Kahr PM9

I didn't realize it had been discontinued. I agree, a new grip module should have a very simple solution considering the ease of replacement. Hopefully they stick with the concept because I think they were onto something.

As far as my own personal experience with my PM9, for 9mm your CM9 is probably the best bet. For 380 I would stick with a locked breech model. For that, whichever LCP fits your hand coming out of the pocket cleanly and reliably. Something that with a firing grip does not snag on the way out. The RM380 is also a good recommendation, and gives a better grip, but I find the ambi mag release iffy. I do not want to draw and release the mag by accident. I believe @chicharrones has modified his to avoid this.

True! I've used a dremel to grind down the buttons on both sides to be more flush to the grip.

The good news is that the Rohrbaugh uses a heel mag release, which I believe is possibly the best method of magazine retention for a pocket gun.

I agree on heel release. I might try your mod on my RM380, I bought spare parts when it was clear they might not be available again. Sorry for the thread drift....

I like my M&P Bodyguard in .380 fine for what it is.
It's not my favorite gun by any stretch, but it's the one that I can carry every day and not mind the weight.
I'm thinking the opposite of you. I need a full size or a subcompact to carry OWB under a jacket.
