The 327 has 8 rounds and is 21 ounces.

Two X42s would be 30 ounces but have 10 rounds.

With the 327 I need conceal just one gun.

With the pair of X42s I have a BUG and can keep one where my left hand can get to it.

Both options would be lighter than what I carry now.

Are there any trade-offs I'm not seeing?

In your opinion what is the better option?

I carry 2 S&W model 60s on an OWB belt holster (one on the left and the other on the right). I believe in the "2 is 1, and 1 is none" theory. It takes some commitment to carry 2 guns because there might be somedays where you're just too lazy to strap on the second gun. I had to practice a lot with my weak hand to draw and present the firearm.

Some drawbacks of the 327 vs. 442/642 is caliber. The 327 can shoot .357 magnum. Another drawback is price. You can probably get two 442/642 for the price of one 327.

I'm not too concerned about round count. I'm more concerned about shot placement. My friend has a Glock G26 and always rags me about my revolvers, but I always have a tighter group than him, and I always hit a 8.5x11 sheet of paper at 25 yards (both weak and strong handed).

There are a lot fewer holster options for the 327. I have one because I "just had to have it." The J frame is definitely easier to conceal and carry. The 327 is a N frame and that cylinder is huge.

Yeah I have an N in .45 Colt and small it ain't.

As to .357 I have a couple of all steel revolvers that can fire that round now, and I am not interested in firing it out of anything lighter. So giving up the option in the X42s is not a consideration.

I am really leaning towards the two X42s, I'm looking for a brief in favor of the one 327, if anybody has one, just to see both ends of the argument.

A 642 can be carried in just about any outfit. A 327 is not as flexible when it comes to concealment. While shooting my 327 TRR is great, if concealment is a possibility, I have to recommend a 642 or 340 instead- it would be a much better choice.
