One Shot One Kill teaching!

Mostly of my hunting is with a muzzleloader. Got to put the bullet in the right place first time around or the animal suffers needlessy.

First thing I do after a muzzleloader shot is reload before moving towards a downed animal, no matter how dead it looks.

My Dad was an avid trail watcher, finding a good spot by reading sign.
Of course, the trails stay the same from year to year.
He was a great promoter of the "neck shot" taken only when the deer is basically undisturbed .
I've taken 35 PA bucks mostly using his theory and of course, most were neck shots.
My Dad killed several trail watched deer also, using a Savage M99 in .250 -3000.
The PA "big woods" lends itself well to this kind of hunting!

Ha! Ha!
A few years back in Muzzleloader season, three large doe came within range.
With my .50 Hawkin I dropped one easily.
As soon as I got down from my treestand, I reloaded and then began dressing out my kill.
Lo and Behold, here come two deer back to my kill site and as my rifle was loaded I dispatched a second animal. (all legal of course).
Don't ask me why I reloaded after leaving my treestand,!

I shoot, and if I can't spot the hit, pop 'em again.
Better safe than sorry.

Grew up hunting chucks with a Ruger #1.

The type of gun makes no difference. I shoot as fast as my mind can process the information. If I need another shot, it's delivered.

Some folks think and act slower than others. BTW, the speed being lesser, is not a guarantee of performance.
Are you a Ruger #1 fan ?
Me to and I have one in .25-"06 that I love.
Killed some Bucks at long range but, so far, no chucks !
My other #1"s are a 200th Liberty in .270 and another in .30-'o6.
I 'm on the market for a #1 in of all things, a .30-40 Krag.
I know that with reloads I'll have a super accurate rifle.

I killed a buck with an AK-47 this year. Why? Because I felt like it and it works. I was stalking on the ground in a thicket and slipping through the edge of the thicket is easier with a short rifle than a long one. Also, if you hunt over a bait pile and have shooting lanes then I suppose only bolt actions could make some sense, but I don't bait and I hunt mostly public land where cutting shooting lanes is illegal. In the real world when a rutting buck is running by in the thick woods it is easy to hit a small limb when shooting and a second shot is sometimes required to get the job done. That AK I used reloads the second shot itself which doesn't require me to lose precious seconds cycling the action or taking my eye from the sights. That being said, I usually hunt with a bolt action 30.06, but sometimes, a semiautomatic makes more sense. Just because I carry a semi-auto doesn't mean I am going to unload a full magazine at a deer. If it only takes one shot then I only shoot once. I have shot steel at 800 yards with my 30.06 on a local long distance shooting range and have no issues hitting my target but in the woods it can be a different story sometimes.
