Evening guys,

I've been tasked to locate a nice Yugo or Russian SKS for the nephew who's just gotten into guns and would really like one. I keep reading numbers around $200 being bandied about, but I have no idea where to find these rifles for such prices. Any good online place for SKS? Or perhaps a Romanian AK (that one's for me :D )

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated

I don't know where you are, but here in Houston they appear at the gun shows often ($109-229 at George R. Brown weekend before last - scads of'em).

Here's a pretty darn new one.

Atlantic Firearms has'em - that's fairly representative of what you'll find from online retailers right now. Prices have been edging up.

SKS

Cheaper than Dirt here in Ft Worth had them in their ad today for $109. They may be able to ship to your FFL.

I didn't see any guns on their website - are they like CDNN in that they can't post their gun stuff online, necessitating a catalog?

I'm in Omaha, BTW, easy driving distance to Iowa, Kansas, Missouri or South Dakota.

If your nephewis over 21, why not set him up to secure a C&R license by getting him the info packet from the ATF. If he's just getting into guns as you say, the milsurps can be some of the most affordable, and interesting guns one can own. He'll be able to recieve them via courrier right to his home. In the end, he may one day thank you more for the C&R and the beginning it could be to such an interest, than to the first rifle itself.

Just a thought.

Cheaper than Dirt

Yes, they don't list guns on their website. They had a newspaper ad in today's paper here in Ft Worth for them. I may stop by there tomorrow to take a look and can post here on what they have in stock. You may call them tomorrow and check on their shipping on guns. I know they mail order everything else so I would think they would ship to an FFL.
Hope this helps.

J and G sales, Prescott AZ.

Don't neglect the Norinco (Chinese) SKS. Mine has better fit and finish than any Yugo I ever saw, is more compact, and shoots very good groups. Might have to look around just a bit, or check the Gunbroker or Auction Arms sites.

Huge numbers of them at gunshows; I second that nomination, absolutely. All kinds, in all conditions. From $89 to $300+

Man I wish I would have had an uncle like you when I was a kid. Have fun with your sks!

These places have AK and SKS listed.

They say call for pricing because SOG WONT sell to anyone but a dealer, have your dealer call and order from them. Prices go from $100 to $150 on the Yugos depending on condition.

They have Romanian AKs starting at $279.....they have SKSs also. These guys are great, truly first rate. These are the people I recommend doing business with.

AIM is good people to.....they have SKSs and AKs.

Followup on Cheaper than Dirt SKS

Stopped by CTD today and the $109 Yugo SKS's were pretty rough. Cracked stocks, pretty worn condition, but I guess that's what $109 gets you. Local gun shows are going to be your best bet , imo.

What a great response guys, and in just one night! There are really only 2 "gun" shops in Omaha (which is a scandal because there are 600,000 people in the metro area, though a Cabela's did just open up...), and I"ll stop by them tomorrow and poke my nose around. I'll let you fellas know how it goes...
