Hi all. I can't for the life of me find speer gold dots anywhere near me. I was wondering if some of you could give reliable online sources where you get your speer gold dots from?

I think he wants bullets, not cartridges. And I heard that Speer has stopped selling the bullets so they can put them exclusively in their own ammo... was a thread on here a while back. Sorry.

is 17.49 for a box of 20 a good price? that seems steep, at least in comparison to other hollowpoint +p bullets. I can get eldorado star-fires for about 11.00 a box.

I mean cartridges, not bullets. Sorry, my fault.

Please forgive me, I am a bit of a newbie, and make terminology mistakes sometimes.

Try Streicher's for loaded ammo (www.streichers.com) they sell 50 round boxes for around $20.

Midway has Gold Dot's for reloading if your looking for them that way.

Most stores only sell and will charge you more for the 20 round box. You should look around and find someone who will sell you the 50 round box. My local dealer gets me the 50 round box of 135gr short barrel .38+P rounds for $17.95.

I don't know why they list onlt the 20 round boxes. My local dealer is the one who told me about the 50 round boxes. I'm guessing it's because they can get a higher price for the 20 round box.

The Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel Part #'s are:

.38+p 135 gr 20 round box 23921
.38+p 135 gr 50 round box 53921
.357 135 gr 20 round box 23917
.357 135 gr 20 round box 53917

Note, the first # for the 20 round box is a 2 and the first # on the 50 round box is a 5.

I recently visited a shop in the Bay Area of California and found 17 boxes of Speer Gold Dot bullets (not cartridges) for my 357 magnum. He had gotten them by accident and was dumping them for $5 a box. Needless to say, I purchased all of them!

Like I said, my local shop dealer told me about them. If you have a small local gun shop you deal with I'm sure he will order them for you.

I hope you guys can get the 50 round box at a fair price because $16+ for the 20 round box is not out of line with Federal Hydra-Shok and some others but still way too high IMO.

I'd be a bit wary about Streichers. I received some 50rd. boxes of 9mm and 45 Gold Dot ammo today and it looks like old stock to me - the corners of the boxes are faded and a bit ragged and the copper of the bullet has a slight tarnished look to it. I'd guess the ammo is at least a year old, if not more. Not worth sending it back as I'll just shoot it for function check and practice, but I'm going to e-mail them to see what they have to say.

20rd boxes I've bought elsewhere have been pristine & obviously recently manufactured, both the box and ammo itself. Maybe Ammo companies need to include a "born-on" date for premium ammo like the beer companies do, lol

I was thinking about this the other day when the discussion of 50 vs. 20 count of Gold Dots began. Somehow it struck me as too good to be true to get double the amount of rounds for the price of one. However, I placed an order through Mirage Techn. and when I get them will report how they compare to the 20 count I got from Midway.

I've ordered 50 round boxes from Streichers (and others) on a regular basis and never had any problems with any of the ammo I bought. I havent encountered any of the old looking boxes or tarnished rounds yet. Maybe they came across a case that didnt get rotated and you were the lucky one what got them. If you buy by the full case, the boxes tend to look better than those that were loose packed, especially with other stuff. (that doesnt address the tarnish) Let us know how you make out. I'm sure they will take care of you. I once ordered 357Mag and 357SIG in the same order from them and they mixed up the quantities. When I called, they took care of it right away without question and threw in a box of 357SIG free to boot.

I think the 20 round boxes are aimed at the general public, and the 50 round for the law enforcement markets. The big advantage to the internet is, your not at the mercy of the boy down the street who tells you you cant have them for whatever reason. If you deal with the people who deal in bulk, and especially those who deal directly in the market your looking for, you generally get what your looking for and at better prices.

camacho,
How much did you pay at Mirage for the Speer Gold Dots?
Please do let us know how they look and performed.
Thanks!

$16 per box and $8 shipping for both. Total: $40.
As soon as I get them I will report back with some feedback.

Just as camacho said, I got it for $16 (or was it $16.50?) per box and $8 shipping for both to Texas. Ordered it last Tuesday - got it a few minutes ago (the following Monday).

I could find the 135-grain Gold Dots page okay, but couldn't find prices anywhere on the Mirage site. Do the prices change so much ($16.50, $16.00, etc.) that they can't post 'em?
From what everyone has said so far, it doesn't look like an "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" situation. ;)

Just to continue this saga.
I just got my box of (50) 135 gr. .38 Special +P GDHP from Streichers and although the box does look a little beat up or "old" how old could they really be as this cartridge has only been around since 2003. So it shouldn't really matter. And the rounds I fired were great.
Since I paid $21 at Streichers I guess the better deal is at Mirage but I'd like to hear from camacho and peabody to confirm that they did go BANG! And that it is the same item number #53921.
