For anyone who is interested, there is a special run of Ruger GP-100 revolvers with a 5" barrel (normally they are only available with a 4" or 6" barrel). These revolvers are available only through Davidson's Gallery of Guns, and there were only 10 left as of this morning. They will probably be sold out within a day or two. If you want one, grab it while you can. They balance better than the 6" and give you better velocity than the 4", plus they are kind of scarce, which makes them cool.

At the $750 asking price I'd rather buy Rugers new SR1911. It's a 5" too! (smile)

Just sayin',
Dave

At the $750 asking price ...

$750 is not the asking price, but rather the MSRP. Davidson's will give you a price when you hit "get quote." Depending on your area, it will be just a little over $500.

Only 5 left as of 3:00pm Central time.

I paid FAR less than $750 for mine. Firearms MSRPs are notoriously high. My only gripe, which is rather minor, is that being unable to select from several, I could not cherry-pick for smooth trigger pull, as I usually do with Rugers.

I like the idea of a slightly shorter barrel, but I got a 6" new from a local retailer a year ago for $450.00.

If this is the TALO gun there are not a limited edition. I checked the TALO website and they will continue this run of guns. My dealer in NJ can get these through a distributor so they are not exclusive. Some of these special runs are limited to 1000 units but not these.

Another one of Davidsons "dealer exclusives" that they already think is a collectors item.

Why? Because they're about $550 just like all the other GP-100s from them?

If this is the TALO gun...
Uh, it's not ;)

Davidsons does a run of these 5" GP100s every year or so. They always sell them for the same amount as the rest of their GP-100s. I picked one up a couple of years ago and it really is the best of both (4" and 6") worlds.

And to the OP, I'll stick with Inversion, but Black Butte's not too bad ;)

Just a little pet peeve I have with all these dealer exclusives. Has little to do with price. Just the emphasis the companies put on it being sooooo exclusive.

All that "exclusive" means is that one must get the particular variant through the one distributor. I think you are reading more into the word "exclusive" than is there. Exclusive, when said in a perfectly flat tone, is merely the opposite of inclusive.

Man, wish I had an extra few bucks to buy this gun - the 5" length seems about perfect (and the minimum legal barrel length for hunting whitetails with a pistol in OH....) - but I just bought a few guns recently and I am tapped out ... Well, It looks like a 6" Gp-100 is in the distant future ...

Just checked - 5 left for lucky homes here on THR ...

So where else can I buy a NIB 5" GP100 right now?
Exclusive doesn't mean collectors' item, it just means a configuration that the distributor ordered up a batch of. I've not seen any of the distributors make these types of guns out to be collectors items. I HAVE seen some Gunbroker sellers trying to sell their Acusport Bisleys for $900 though.
