Only carry 3 rounds in your carry gun?

The guy is right AND --

The moon landing was a hoax.

There's a doorway to a parallel universe in the Bermuda Triangle.

The Holocaust didn't happen.

If you put a spent .45 ACP case under your pillow, the brass fairy will leave you $0.25.

I find it beyond belief that anyone could be so incredibly stupid as to either teach or believe in such a 3-round carry.

If this is not a joke on your part, it has to be a joke promulgated by your friend.

If not, both the trainer and your friend are idiots.
And that's the most polite term I can justify.

This is genuinely one of those occasions where tact & sensitivity are not indicated.

Did you guys know that if you look down the barrel of your loaded 1911 you can see the bullet?:D

This must have been a joke that was believed by a very gullible person. its really fun to bs people sometimes, and there is no shortage of fun, gullible people.

"Daniel-san, drivers license does not replace eye, ear, and brain."

And avoid online pregnancy tests...

The reasoning that he said his trainer gave him was that almost any encounter you have will be over in 3 rounds. If it isn't, then you're dead anyway and it's best to not leave a fully loaded gun behind for the bad guy to get ahold of and use to kill more people.

Guy is living in a fantasy land to think either 3 rounds or you are dead.

This thread took off fast.

3 shots? Hell no!

The encounter may be over in 3 rounds but I plan to need the rest of them to ensure it's done.

I'm deeply skeptical of the idea that anyone with combat experience, never mind someone with elite training, would say "only load 3 rounds in the magazine" in any context other than a joke or leg-pull.

+1 to that. It sounds like someone mis-interpreted a joke, couldn't decipher sarcasm, or some other such communication error.

The idea of being intentionally unprepared, just in case you lose; is mind-bogglingly stupid. That goes against everything I ever learned in the military or out of it.

Why not tie one hand behind your back because you have a gun and shouldn't need to use both of them.

To quote Burt Gummer from Termors:
"To have it and not need it is one thing, to not have it and need it, you sing a different tune."

I live by the Boy Scout's model, "Always be prepared." That includes ample supplies of ammunition.

Over the years I have discovered there is a certain type of person who likes to argue for the sheer sake of arguing... no matter the topic, no matter the facts, no matter the time involved, no matter the logic, no matter the evidence.

Combine that trait with a person who has a burning internal need to have the last word, and it's time to grin, shake your head, and walk away.

Does anyone here carry only 3 rounds in a high-cap pistol?

Um, no.

he said was a Special Ops person, he only carries 3 rounds in his Glock

mhmm.

that is literally the dumbest thing ive read all day.....

Well, I caught part of the DNC debate tonight on the topic of firearms, so I can't honestly say that this qualifies for the dumbest of the day. Though it does rank very high indeed. ;)

As a BK amputee of my "legs" is about 15" shorter than the other, but I still carry a full mag of ammo. Not sure what the correlation is, but that's how I do it.

I have figured it out ! In this fast paced, do it NOW society we live in...he wants to get to the "shoot 'till it clicks" stage of a gun fight real quick!

Good grief.

Maybe this guy was like one of the students when I took my CCW qualification. When I left, he was starting his second 50 round box of ammo trying to put 5 shots into a 12” square at 15 feet. The instructor may have thought the guy would shoot fewer bystanders with only three rounds.

I have taken a bit of ribbing from saying that as a LEO in plain clothes, I carried a 5-shot Model 36 and one speed loader. I guess some folks would consider 500 cases of ammo not enough to carry, but the "3 rounds" seems a bit silly. Where did this supposed special ops guy get his training? Special ops guys carry plenty of ammo and I have never heard of one worrying that his weapon and ammo might be captured.

Sort of like sending out a B2 bomber without bombs so that if it is shot down, the enemy won't get hold of the ordnance.
