Somewhere in WA.
I have a CPP in WA. I plan on spending my winters in the SW, mainly NM, AZ and UT.

My CCP is good in ID, UT and AZ so I'm not too concerned about those states. My question is about NM, NV and CO. I understand that my CCP isn't honored in those states so I plan to just open carry when I'm there. I don't plan to do that in Denver or any towns or cities but I want to OC when I'm in or around my RV while camping and hiking in rural areas.

I plan on carrying a 1911 in condition 3.

Anyone see anything wrong with that plan?

I just feel a lot more comfortable not having to think about racking the slide. I carry a CZ 82, 9x18 Mak on occasion, the same set up as the 1911, and I'm always cocked and locked.

I agree, from 6 years experience, old military training dies hard. ;) But having one ready in the pipe is vital. That moment of delay could cost you dearly.

Go with condition 1. :)

One thing I forgot. To wish you many safe and happy trips. You have a great itinerary. Some of the most wonderful, scenic areas of the United States.

Utah is my favorite. 5 National Parks, Lake Powell. Paria Canyon. New Mexico is a close second. The Land of Enchantment it certainly is.

Vaya con dios.

Travel plans.....

Id advise you buy a 2014 www.Gunlawguide.com if you travel often. Keep it with you to refer to if needed.
www.handgunlaw.us is handy too. ;)
Id also suggest looking into a insurance or legal services plan like www.CCWsafe.com or the NRA, www.NRA.org choices.
They can provide a lawyer, bail, PIs, etc if you get into a big jam on the road. :uhoh:
Don't go out & think you can get by on a wink or a nudge. Some rural PD or sheriff's deputy is not your buddy or looking out for your benefit.

Carrying a loaded firearm in public either open or concealed takes a higher level of competence & maturity.

I don’t have a link, but you may want to check the NM AG’s website.

Nevada is a weird bird. Don’t take this as gospel, but I think NV only recognizes a “Resident” permit and only from specific states. The biggest problem in NV (From what I understand) is that what is or is not recognized is determined by a meeting of county sheriffs, not the legislature, and it can change every time they meet. If I’m wrong, I assume a correction will soon be posted.

Nevada Sheriffs and Chiefs Association. Not really a government entity but given the power to decide law.
