Open Carry in NC

I have been searching for some time now a good explanation of what open carry is considered in North Carolina. For those who can help me, what is considered open carry? I'm thinking its where the handgun must be present at all times with no part of the gun covered?

I'm asking because while I'm currently waiting on my CCW, I would still like to be able to carry when I'm out at night. Any help / explanation would be awesome!

The first link Midwest gave you is spot-on. Look at the flyer, it'll answer all you questions.

If you're going to carry open, it has to be visible. Can't put your coat on over it, or drape your t-shirt over it, or stick it between the seats.

Thanks for the help! What do you all do when dressing around OC? I don't often tuck my shirts in especially if it's some sort of athletic shirt or dry-fit. Any suggestions here?

The only time I open carry anywhere in public is before or after a hike. Any other time, I'm hunting, or on personal property. When I do go places pre/post hiking, it's wearing something similar, either a dri-fit polo or t-shirt tucked into khaki pants or something. I make an effort to look neat when I OC.
