Anyone get one? My feeder didn't feed this morning, but not much was moving around. I did here a shot about a mile behind me, then a finishing shot. Somebody killed somethin'. My timer had quit, runs on a AA battery and I had a spare in my van. I walked out, dropped my dirt bike off the carrier and ran down there with a fresh battery and got it going before I left. Kinda fun ridin' in the soupy mud. I think I heard my other feeder go off, not sure, it's a ways from my stand. I set it up for a buddy of mine. I went and checked it and there was a little corn on the ground. Didn't feed too long, but I guess that's a good thing, really. It's a new feeder I bought, works off a photo cell. No clock to set. I have no opinion on it right now, a cheap timer I got at Walmart.
Anyhow, it was a glorious morning. I enjoyed watching ducks fly over and flocks of sandhill cranes that I coulda shot, but of course they're not season and they're illegal on my land anyway, south of FM616. I guess they worry some moron will mistake a whooping crane for a sandhill. Those things are good eatin', though. On the way out on the "road" on the edge of some water (ain't much of a road, more like a mud path) there was fresh hog wallows and tracks and the tracks of what looks like a nice buck. All that is within a week fresh cause it wasn't there Monday.
Stopped in Seadrift for a cup of coffee on the way home. Never drink the stuff before hunting. Not worried about the smell, it's just the stuff is a natural laxative, if you know what I mean. There was a duck guide there gassin' up his airboat. They killed a limit out on the bay this morning. I think I'm going to sit in my stand tomorrow morning, then give Monday a break and hunt ducks Tuesday morning.
The cool air is nice and hunting season never lasts long enough, but I enjoy it when it's here.
