opinion about the PT709 slim, how dependable is it as a EDC?

Well I bought the PT709 yesterday. I don't have the feeling that I should have bought the LC9 rather. I will see how she shoots, hopefully with 100% reliability.
What ammo have you found that this gun loves? I want the best accuracy possible from this gun.

Congrats on the purchase. I think it will serve you well. Let us know how you like it and how it shoots.

As for the 709 and 740's I've owned, they function great with Federal, WWB, and even Tula ammo for practice.

I'm thinking of picking up another 709Slim for when I need to pocket carry. My current CCW's are a Glock23 and a Ruger SR9c.

When I carried mine I used Speer Gold Dot 115gr and 124 grain hollow points. The 124gr seemed more accurate in it. Both functioned 100%.

I'm not a fan of Taurus, and I have had at least 5. There is always something I don't like about each individual gun. They aren't the worst, i just think they're mediocre.

I realize I'm late to the party, but maybe the next guy looking at buying a PT709 can benefit from all the input.

I also own a 709 Slim that I bought LNIB for $230. I've probably put around 200 rounds of WWB target rounds through her with not a single issue. For a compact pistol, I like the size and after adding grip extensions to the mags I love how it fits my hand. The only complaint I have is I can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn with the thing. Everything is low and left. Even from 10 feet. Others have shot it with the same results. However, another guy at the range shot it very accurately, so I have to admit the problem is likely not the gun. Since I can shoot my other semi autos and revolvers well enough, this one has me puzzled. Even though the problem is the person behind the gun, if I can't shoot it accurately, it's of no use to me and will be finding a new home soon. In my experience they appear to be well made and reliable pistols. Hope you have better luck hitting what you're aiming at with yours than I did with mine.

Sooner fan - could be a lemon, but mine & most I have heard about are pretty accurate for small pistols. Try different ammo - WWB is the least accurate of all I have tried in my 709. You might try a heavier bullet ( 124 or 147 grain) - it will shoot a bit higher. I am sure you realize that the sights are adjustable within limits. You might also try a different grip - hold firmer with left hand, a little less with right. A different position of your finger on the trigger might also help ( trigger more out toward the fingertip or perhaps in toward the first joint). The " low lefts" are pretty common with small pistols, & particularly the 709 when folks first shoot them, but the problem usually resolves after practicing with the pistol & perhaps a few changes in shooting technique.

I would get the Taurus over the LC9. The trigger on the lc9 is terrible.

I've pocket carried my 709 slim for a couple years, no problems. Had a Kel Tec, hated the trigger so I traded it for the Slim. Also have a Colt Defender, but the 709 is smaller, so it comes along most of the time.

How bad is the recoil? I looked at one yesterday and the short grip left my little finger dangling.

It has a brisk snap, but overall I found it to be soft. It did not pound the web of my hand like some slim, light pistols.
