i finally decided that my next choice for a rifle will be an ar. i am seriously not trying to start any kind of brand war or say that one brand is superior to another. i was looking at alot of different brands from bushmaster, dpms, colt, rra etc.. i want the best possible rifle i can afford, i want one that can hold up to pretty much anything i throw at it. i've seen noveske named here alot and they seem to be touted as one of the top tier of ar's out at the moment, my question is would this rifle actually be better built and more suited to my needs ie accurate, reliable, will serve as hd rifle, range rifle and and some hunting than a colt or other rifle i can get in the same price range.

Hmm.. there is no one answer to your question, but there are a number of good ones. Noveske is a top tier brand, and you will be well served with it. Is it better than the colt, possibly, but who's really to say? LWRC, LMT and others are also excellent rifles. Read reviews and debates, TRY to get some trigger time, most dudes I know don't care how many rounds you run through their rifles so long as it's your ammo. Then make your decision. Find what you want, then try to work the price, even if it means waiting a few more months. Get what you want the first time, and you won't be dissatisfied.

thanks ranger.

i guess what i was asking was since the noveske is the basic model would it still be built better than some of the other ar's i listed? i'm really not interested buying a rifle for the prestige of the name. most people i shoot with wouldn't know the difference between a colt and doublestar and rra. i just want a no frills ar capable of mounting optics that is extremely rugged/reliable and accurate.

that rifle is absolutely superior to the colt product. it has at least these features that are BETTER than mil-spec (for the m4)
> barrel
> stock (vltor)
> h buffer
> QD endplate
> grip (tango down)

and it costs roughly $300 more than the colt 6920 that meets milspec.

so the real question is... do you want THOSE parts?

for example, if you want a magpul grip and stock, don't spend $1400 on the noveske and then another $200 on magpul furniture and throw away the vltor and td stuff. why spend $1600 and wind up with a drawer full of unused premium parts? start with the colt, add the parts you want, and you'll be around the same.

that said, stocks and grips are a lot easier to swap than quad-rails, so i'd find the cheapest model that has the rail i like, and go from there, if i was looking to buy a nearly complete rifle.

I have the Noveske 16" Recce and it is a great all around carbine. Its very accurate and I have never had a malfunction yet. But its still pretty new and I havent run it hard much yet. The big difference is their barrel.

I knew nothing about AR's other than what I read. Zero experience except for trigger time. I decided to build one from scratch so I would have a better understanding of how AR's work.

I've determined I now know very little as opposed to nothing. :D

I did end up with a better understanding of the platform, a sense of accomplishment and a rifle I can sell for what I have in it. I also have a rifle that I can learn on without much fear of damaging a $3000 off the shelf rifle. I don't really care what some dude at the range may say about my junkyard dog of a rifle being a piece of junk compared to his JP.

I'm kinda glad I went that route. I originally thought I wanted a 16" barrel, flat top and an eotech. Now that I have that, I realize I'll be happier with a 20" heavy barrel, scope, free float tube and bipod. At least now I know I can convert to this setup myself without going to a gunsmith should I choose not to be a complete upper. Plus it was great all around fun building it. ;)

build your own for a third of the price at model 1 sales.
its a kit, just buy a striped lower and pick out all the accessories you want

They are all just about the same. Figure out what features you want and get the one that fills the bill and fits your budget. People make this way over-complicated.

I would not hesitate to buy that if I were in your position. Noveske is the cream of the crop when it comes to AR's. I have a colt, which I love dearly, but that wouldnt stop me from getting any Noveske in the least.

i owned a bushmaster xm15 before it was a solid rifle as far as i was concerned it never jammed and was more accurate than i was. i wasn't and still am not highly educated on the ar platform. the only thing that makes me want to go with a higher end ar is that i have heard so much about the quality of the rifles and that the quality control is so much higher. i wouldn't know a properly staked gas key from one that was ready to fall apart. when i used to clean my ar i would just strip the bolt carrier assembley from the rifle and soak the bolt in hoppes and give it a good brushing along with all the internals and lower receiver, then spray it with a light coat of clp and let it sit untill i took it out to shoot again. i never disassembled the bolt and and cleaned it to the extent it probably should have been.

i just would have better peice of mind knowing that the utmost care was taken to make sure that my rifle would be in perfect working order when i receive it and that it was built to last rather than one that was slapped together by a big name corporation who could care less if i was unsatisfied with the final product i received.

They're currently back ordered. I placed an order at the beginning of Feb and still haven't even had them give me a status update on my order. On the plus side though, they haven't charged me yet either.

If you want one off the best ARs for the money, be sure and take a long hard look at Bravo Company and Spikes Tactical.

Just don't settle... That's the only thing you may regret.

Noveske, LMT, Colt, Bravo Co, all are good to go!!

There are alot of AR's out there now with many options, some have this some have that. Best advice is to get a basic model with some good parts and a good idea which direction you are going with it. Then you can pick up parts to build it into what you want at local stores and shows and have fun all the time. It is also fun looking at new things to add instead of buying the complete item and lose interest over time.

Save money

No matter what look to CDNN for an AR no one beats their prices, you can get a Smith & Wesson MP15 with 18 mags for 799.00 great prices on LWRC, CMMG, Colt they are hard to beat and have great customer service ask for Cody.

Noveske is one of the best, as is LMT, Colt and BCM. Definitely look at Spikes too. Right now they have an excellent price on their carbine and midlength gas system ARs. Fully milspec semiautos for a rock bottom price.

Building your own is a fun moneysaving project but it sounds like you're not interested in that.

I just got a Spikes 16" midlength upper, but I won't get to shoot it for about 2 weeks. I feel the quality is there based on inspection, but obviously I won't know much till it's throwing lead.

thanks so much everyone for all the help. i think i'll be getting the noveske that i posted earlier. i won't be buying it untill june but i'll be sure to post pics when i get it.
