So what does everyone think is the most accurate C&R rifle? I didn't want to make a poll because there are so many to list and my brain certainly can't remember them all.

Personally I think it's the Swiss K31. But I hear that the Sako m39 and the Swedish Mauser is up there also. Any other opinions? I'm curious!

The most accurate C&R that any of us is ever likely to have a realistic opportunity to buy (the means and the opportunity) is probably the K31.

Agree with bmwguy. I love me some Mausers, but the sights negate the barrels. Scope'em and it's a different story, but no longer (mostly) a C&R.

I would be willing to bet

that the model 96 Swedish Mauser has to be right at the top of the list. I had one that I could dump a box of PMC 140's through and it they would all go in a Group that was under 1 1/2" at 100 yards. This was with open sights. A friend of mine still has one that he reloads for and he shoots dime sized 5 shot groups with his reloads.

Probably, by now, the one that is least worn out, regardless of make! ;)

Do you mean C&R, or specifically milsurp?

If the latter, I'll say close call between the Schmidt-Rubin rifles and the Swedish Mausers, though the '03 Springfield was also typically very accurate.

If you mean all C&R, we're including every rifle made up to 1960. Quite alot more possibilities there.

Haven't shot a K-31 yet, but my Swede is surprisingly accurate with a variety of handloads. Barrel is pristine, tag is unmarked and it's in overall very nice shape.

Hear nothing but good about K-31s.

I'd add:

The Swiss 1911 long rifle, which can be even more accurate than the K31

The Civil Guard's M28 and M28/30, the ultimate Mosin-Nagants. AKA the Rifles of the White Death.

Argentine 1909 Mauser

Venezuelan Olympic Mauser

I have a 98K Mauser (Russian capture) that managed to keep it's original barrel throughout it's capture and whatever the Russians did to it. They did replace the stock and some of the bolt parts, but the barrel and receiver retain the original German serial numbers.

It's scary accurate with my cast heavy bullet (205 grain RN over 17 grains of Hotchkiss "glass flake" powder pulled from 1950's Yugo 8mm) handloads. I can't see that far with open sights at my age, so I DID put a scope on it. The lead bullet load will do 1" or under 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

I've managed a .68" five shot group at 100 yards and it will do cloverleaf 3 shotters at 50 yards pretty much all day long with 198 grain FMJBT bullets pulled from that surplus 1950's Yugo ammo over 10.5 grains of Trail Boss.

As to the most accurate C & R (or MilSurp) there are a number of them that will easily compete with each other. 99 percent of it will depend on the shooter, especially when it comes to K31's 1903/03A3 Springfields, good 91/30's, Finn M28, 28/30, M39 Mosin types, Many of the Mausers, especially Swede and German etc. Kinda like opinions, everyone has one and generally no two will agree completely - ;)
