I believe the Maverick 88 is made in Mexico from many Mexican-made parts. The 500 is made in the USA from USA-sourced parts. That's enough reason to justify the extra expense IMO.

is there any question?? i'm sure the 88's aren't bad and would defend the choice if thats what you want, but if you have a choice take the 1300.

at craigs firearms they have a ton of 14 inch rem 870 police magnums for 400.00 stamp and all!!! i bought one and im loving it!

If I were looking for a shotgun and couldn't get an 870 (my first choice) then I would go for a Mossberg 500 (not a maverick 88).
