I picked a used 4" XD- 45 yesterday,in great condition. This is the first one I've ever owned/shot. I like it so far, what are your opinions?

I have the compact version (basically identical to yours but with a shorter grip so it can take a 10 rd mag or 13 rd mags with an extension). I love mine. It's been super reliable with anything I can feed it.

I own the XDm 4.5 in .45 ACP. It is totally reliable as well as very accurate. Before I bought it I also considered the XD, the G21 and the FN FNP USG .45 ACPs. There were enough shooters having issues with the FNP that I decided to pass on it. The G21 has questionable casehead support a polygonal bore and non relieved ejection ports. All important issues to me as a handloader. I want my ejected cases to be in the best condition possible. That and I very much prefer the locking block used in the XD/XDm that incorporates the front slide rails that is much stronger than the Glock platform. If the rails ever became excessively worn, the locking block is replaceable.

You bought yourself an excellent pistol. The only issue that I'm aware of is that shooters/reloaders have problems getting them to feed cast lead SWCs. I handload and shoot a lot of them so that was part of the reason I went with the XDm. RNFP or truncated cone shaped lead bullets are no problem for the XD though. So if you want to shoot them or handload them you want have any problems. One of the best endorsements I can think of for the XD is the fact that Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch now uses the 5" barreled XD Tac and it's all I've seen him using lately in the various shooting shows I watch on TV. He is formerly one of the biggest 1911 advocates I know of.

I should also say that I have the excellent PRP trigger kit in my XDm and it is simply amazing. No take-up to mention with a pull weight around 4# with no overtravel and a shorter reset. I highly recommend them for the XD. To get a better trigger you'd have to spend $1500 for a good 1911 IMO. ;)

I have the XD45 4" Service model with thumb safety. Love the gun. Excellent accuracy!! 100% reliable so far. One of my favorite autos!

I happen to like the XD .45. I only sold mine because i wasn't shooting it often. Actually, the only doublestack auto I've owned that both frame size and grip angle were comfortable for me.

I have the Service model with the 4" barrel. After working over the trigger and installing TFO sights, it's a terrific gun.

I have the 4" Service model XD45acp.... 9575 rounds thru it without ANY failures. Only have cleaned it twice in 3 years, and that was cause I felt sorry for it. I treat this weapon like crap to be honest. It gets slid around the truck floorboard, rained on, muddy, full of **** that would make a billy goat puke and it keeps eating whatever ammo I put thru it. I would carry it into battle, anytime, anywhere. This is a purchase you will not regret.

What do you know. Just got my XD .45 within the last week.

Love this little gun. Very accurate out to 50 meters at least. Much better sights on it compared to a Glock and almost as good as the ones on my Walther. Trigger is a little squishy but I got over that before the first magazine was empty. Recoil DOES NOT FEEL like a .45, more like a 9mm with my XD.
