Greetings,

I recently won a Kimber Custom II NRA Freedom Warrior 1911 pistol.

I am debating whether or not to keep the pistol as an unfired safe queen collectable or shoot it at the range.

I am seeking opinions regarding the pistol and if it is a wothy collector's piece.

Thank you for your attention.

Congrats on the win. I am in the same position you are because I won the the same pistol last week. What I have been told is that because Kimber makes so many commemorative models, they don't really keep that much value as a collector piece. #81 of the 1100 was relisted on Gunbroker several times before it recently sold for $850.
While I do like having it, and have plenty of other pistols to take to the range, I may trade it for something I feel a little better about shooting.

Kimber's are wonderful guns to shoot. if you dont already have a very nice 1911 i would keep it, shoot it enough to keep it happy, and keep it clean. if you already have a favorite 1911 then trade it for something you really want. as far as 1911's go, you got the creme of the crop. Ske1etor has it right though, no 1911 deserves a life of dust collecting in a safe =) can you post a pic of it? id love to see it.

I won a Commemorative Browning High Wall Rifle in 45-70 awhile back. Shot it then traded it for a Colt SAA. I would not hesitate shooting the Kimber. They are great shooting guns DESIGNED AND INTENDED TO BE SHOT. Isn't the idea of winning a gun for the purpose of shooting said gun? If you don't shoot it, it becomes a paperweight. If you decide not to keep it, you'll still make a lot more than you have in it.

It really is a beautiful piece... and id shoot the crap out of it. You ain't gonna hurt it.

If you don't wanna shoot it... send it to me. I'll shoot it for you. :)

let's see...

what would I do??

Hmmm, well.... man this is a really hard one....

NOT....

SHOOT IT!!!

If it will, after all everyone knows that kimber's stink... I'll save you the hassle just send it to me :D

All kidding aside, I would shoot it. If it was one of a million, or a priceless antique more then 150 years old, I might not shoot it... but otherwise, have at it. But the is just IMHO

Congratulations on the win you lucky dog!

If it were me, I'd sell it and use the proceeds to buy the S&W 1911pd that I have been lusting over for some time now. I already have one Kimber that doesn't work. But then again, I still love shooting said Kimber even if it does jam on occasion. Maybe you got one that is as smooth and as accurate as mine AND functions reliably. Well, only one way to find out!

Here's mine. Gonna head to the local dealer that was trying to win it too and see what he offers in trade. Otherwise I may just buy some different grips and head to the range.
