What are you using on your Mosins? I've never scoped any of my previous ones, always just shot irons, but this particular 91/30 has proven to be very accurate and I decided to make it into my GSR so it needs a decent scope. $ isn't really the issue as long as it's not just absurd. I'm not trying to throw a Nightforce on there, but I'm also wanting to get something a little nicer.

I also ran an exceptionally accurate M/N a few years ago and decided to put a scope on it. Initially I went with a cheap NCstar 2-7 pistol scope and no name Chinese aluminum scout scope mount. Less than 500 rounds later I had a scope that wouldn't hold zero and a wobbly scope mount. My current setup is an S&K all steel scout mount topped with a Bushnell trophy XLT 2-6x32 pistol scope. That setup has held zero through several spam cans of 7.62x54. I hope that helps.

I've tried a couple of the scout mounts on my M-44. None of them hold up and the long eye relief scope I put on it could not hold zero.

So, I'm back to iron sights.

i personally like either the ati reciever mount or a full length air rifle mount/ring combo out on the rear sight dove tail for cheap stuff. and the rocksolid for the extra cash as for scopes leupolds in scout position are pretty nice and any decent scope over the reciever....i like nikon

As far as mounts, I'm planning on getting one from advanced rifle parts. I don't really care for the scout setup as much

I second the S & K mount however I would go with a red dot. Bushnell makes a pretty good 30mm. The most solid mount (even though the S&K is pretty much a rock) would be the receiver drill and tap mount which would allow for a normal eye relief scope which really opens up your options. The only thing that sucks about that set up is that you can't use stripper clips anymore and you have install the bent bolt kit.

Burris makes a really nice scout scope, as does Leupold. I would go with one of those. I have also had the thought that a red dot would be pretty cool on one of those, maybe something like the Bushnell TRS-25. Good luck on your Scout project. I am currently building a scout from an FR-8.

If you are ok with a scout scope setup, a really clean solution is to remove the rear leaf sight which leaves you with a 7/8 dovetail. You can use rimfire rings to mount a scope. Since the rimfire rings do not have travel stops, you can either file notches on the bottom of the rings so you can use the existing rear sight pins to stake them in place, or drill a very shallow hole on the face of the dovetail so you can screw in the set screw that comes with certain rings.

There are some pretty neat examples on youtube:

The rear sight dovetail is 12mm not 7/8". The 11mm dovetail to Williams mount works fine and is available on Amazon for 8 bucks.

With a $30.00 11mm dovetail mounted fully click adjustable aperture sight, used for back up if scope should fail in the field.

The rear sight dovetail is 12mm not 7/8".

It seems others have had it work for them, using the existing dovetail. I would be more inclined to trust that than a 8 dollar mount from amazon stamped made in china.

Err you're right. Not sure where I got the 7/8" number from. Eitherway, I used rimfire rings with a set screw and its holding up with no issues.

Gonna go against the grain here and agree with savage1r about the mojo microclick sights. I'm getting 2.5moa with light czech ball thanks to those. Was shooting about 4 moa with the original sights. Definitely go for the tandem apertures. With handloads I think I can get this rifle down to much better accuracy than that.
