You need to TELL THEM WHY you are boycotting them; otherwise they don't get it.

Aren’t they in IL? Did an IL ordinance go into effect causing this? All I am saying is don’t get the nails and the cross out until it’s time to start hammering.

I HAVE NO IDEA what their thought process is or have a vested interest in them just saying get the whole story before making an enemy of a friend. Could very well be some wonky state issue.

If not.......by all means and I will light your torches on the way out th door. :)
Magpul left Colorado due to it’s anti gun laws.
If this is due to Illinois gun laws, then they should move too.

Everyone should send them nastygram explaining their loss of your business.

I just did.

Is there a page on their website that details their decision? While I can't find any standard-capacity Glock magazines on the site, I'm not seeing anything that says there has been a change. Can anybody provide a link?

Not happy, and I plan to let them know. I've been a customer of theirs for several years. I'm ready to call it quits and explain why, but I want some good information first.

I hope everyone uses the contact us form and lets them know your displeasure.

Their site is running extremely slow. Used their “contact us” to send a message. Site so slow it took me 23 minutes to type 2 sentences. Will try again tomorrow. Hopefully they are being inundated with messages telling them to pound sand.

They just posted this in a Facebook comment:

"We fully understand how the email featured in the article on The Truth About Guns suggests that we may have made a decision to limit the sales of magazines over 10 rounds due to the recent tragedy in Parkland, Florida. Before we go any further, we want to make it clear that our condolences go to the families of all of the victims, and that our hearts go out to a community trying to recover after a senseless event.

At OpticsPlanet, we have never used the inflamed tensions and emotions of current events to drive decision making. Our support of the 2nd amendment is made undeniably clear by the products we offer. We are one of the few online retailers who never stopped offering completely legal products such as bump stocks or binary triggers, when many did. We do not raise prices during frenzies. We do, however, follow the laws and make adjustments when legally required.

In this case, insufficient internal communication led to a misread message. We are not offering magazines with capacities greater than 10 rounds to the general public due to our location in Northbrook, Illinois, and local laws that limit our ability to sell these. Being an internet retailer serving fifty states can be complex at times, and frankly, our location in Illinois only adds to this complexity. We may not always like the law, but we need to follow it.

We own up to the fact that we did not explain this well internally, which led to an unclear message given to the customer, but we can completely repudiate any notion that this is a reaction to any recent event or the political climate. Unfortunately, our loyal customer base is best served by purchasing their magazines from retailers in "free" states. This issue is currently out of our hands. We’re committed to working hard to retain your business for everything else you need.

It's unfortunate that this issue has created so much confusion, and we apologize for not providing clearer messaging in the first place. We continue to support our passionate customer community as we have for the past eighteen years in every way we can."

I'd be curious to see what law changed this week

The Truth About Guns now has a link to this law:

Sec. 54-212. - Assault weapons, and large-capacity magazines; sale prohibited; exceptions.
(a)
It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, sell, offer or display for sale, give, lend, transfer ownership of, acquire, carry or possess any assault weapon or large capacity magazine in Cook County. This subsection shall not apply to:
(1)
The sale or transfer to, or possession by any officer, agent, or employee of Cook County or any other municipality or state or of the United States, members of the armed forces of the United States; or the organized militia of this or any other state; or peace officers to the extent that any such person named in this subsection is otherwise authorized to acquire or possess an assault weapon and/or large capacity magazine and does so while acting within the scope of his or her duties;
(2)
Transportation of assault weapons or large capacity magazine if such weapons are broken down and in a nonfunctioning state and are not immediately accessible to any person.
(b)
Any assault weapon or large capacity magazine possessed, carried, sold or transferred in violation of Subsection (a) of this section is hereby declared to be contraband and shall be seized and disposed of in accordance with the provisions of Section 54-213.
(c)
Any person including persons who are a qualified retired law enforcement officer as defined in 18 U.S.C. § 926C who, prior to the effective date of the ordinance codified in this section, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine prohibited by this division shall have 60 days from the effective date of the ordinance to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution hereunder:
(1)
To legally remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from within the limits of the County of Cook; or
(2)
To modify the assault weapon or large capacity magazine either to render it permanently inoperable; or
(3)
To surrender the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to the Sheriff or his designee for disposal as provided below.

So basically, Optics Planet has become another victim of the state in which it resides.

I have been a pretty loyal customer and experienced excellent service from the company (never ordered magazines from it, however); its sales on some optics and lights have been awesome over the past couple years.

They need to fire Mr. Igor, though ... he's certainly set them up for major heat.

Others are saying that AR mags are exempt from the law due to being pistol mags...
No lawyer. But I just read the law. And I didn’t see any exemptions for AR mags. And is the date of that law above 7-17-2013? If so, seems like they were really late (4 years) in abiding by it as the law becomes effective 6 months after its written and signed.

Me thinks something doesn’t seem right.

Either this is all BS or this company has the worst luck on the planet that they were just forced to compliance at this particular time. In the case of the latter, if I was involved in PR for the company I think I would've sent out a furious press release explaining what was happening and how it's all the government's fault.

I have been limited to a 10 round magazine (+1 in the chamber) by the Missouri Conservation Commission for hunting deer for many years now (semi-auto rifles). I do not know what logic was used for that legal conclusion. MO is very pro-gun but the MDC has seen fit to limit capacity. My AR came with a 15 round mag but I could not use it so I purchased a 10 round mag to be legal. What seems ironic (to me) is a government agency limited the mag capacity for deer hunting but the state government did not restrict capacity for the anti’s perceived people safety. Another irony, we pro-gunners did not seem to say a word about the capacity limitation for hunting deer - it was just OK to do that. It seems like upside down world around here to me - crazy, illogical and inconsistent legislation. Good shooting.
