ordered a Thompson/Center T/CR22

My local gun shop said they could get me one. I don’t know if I want to bite the bullet or wait a little bit to see if there are any bugs to work out. I really do want one - it looks like a winner.

Out of the box my 10/22 is not super accurate and I’m hoping the T/C R22 will be. My Marlin has always shot better than my Ruger. I know many people say it’s just a copy, but it still has a few nice options and a nice stock.

Hopefully you won't have to re-trigger, re-stock, re-just about everything to get it to shoot well like the 10/22 folks do.....
My 10/22 was a ***,.... sold it after 2 weeks of frustration. Poor fit/finish, lousy trigger, mis-aligned front sight, mis-feeds, FTF............

Very interesting.. and it seems to have a nice price point, too...... Let us know your impressions concerning it after you've had it out to shoot.

Always liked the design and looks of the TC R55. The stock fit me perfectly and I just liked the gun's balance and the way it handled.

Originally I purchased a 22 Classic which never functioned properly. I returned it to T/C and if my memory serves me correctly T/C replaced the original 22 Classic with another production 22 Classic.

The replacement 22 Classic rifle exhibited the same problematic failures as the first example rifle. Out of frustration I just placed it in the firearms safe, all the way to the rear (out of sight out of mind). I thought if nothing else in twenty or so years it would be a collector’s item.

update

After reading reviews on the T/CR22 I ordered one and just recently received it. Several disappointments some of which will spur a call to TC Customer Service. I cleaned the gun and mounted a Mueller 8-32x44 SF scope with low rings...couldn't zero at 50 yards...used all the up elevation and was still a couple of inches low. Tried a second scope a UTG 3-12x32 SF BugBuster...same thing used all up elevation and still shot low. The gun behaves as if the rail has a negative MOA profile to the barrel. After shooting some various brands I got 10 shot groups averaging 1" at 50 with Norma TAC-22 with the Mueller scope. Next I took the scope off to adjust the iron sights. The front sight was canted...the factory slapped the barrel on without properly indexing to the extractor...re-indexed it myself torquing the block down evenly to 12 in/lbs. BTW the barrel drops out of the receiver...no interference fit. Next with rear sight adjusted to its lowest setting still couldn't zero at 25 yards...shoots an inch high. Needs a taller front sight. The comb is the right height for the peep sights and a low profile red dot (Bushnell TRS25) but not high enough for scopes even with low rings....they should of made it adjustable. Will have to see what CS has to say and go from there.

Well crap! I was hoping for some good news when you got this rifle. Looks like I’ll have to wait a while and see if they get the bugs out before their qc ruins their reputation. How hard can it be to copy someone else’s design and not get it right the first time? I love what they’ve done with the scope rail and peep sight and the last round hold open. I bet if Thompson Center was still TC and not a Smith & Wesson brand it would have been right the first time! I guess I’ll take my wheelbarrow full of money somewhere else.

Ouch..........c'mon T/C, you should do better....like a bit of QC. Hopefully S&W didn't do away with that dept. as it seems others have done.
Don't make us be your QC dept.

I suspect the axis of the barrel relative to the receiver is off (whether by installation or by defect). In essence the barrel is drooped relative to the receiver. That would explain these two simultaneous faults:

1) With a scope it shoots low
2) With irons it shoots high

The cheek weld issue could be solved if the gun can go into a Magpul Hunter X22 stock like my 10/22 clone here:

You can get different cheek risers for that, the one shown above is flush but there are two higher ones.

I hope this is just a one-off defect with your gun and not all of them!

TC emailed me a shipping label and will be sending it back next week. The customer service person seemed to know about the problem without actually saying so....just a feeling I got based on our conversation.

As I noted in a previous post the barrel drops right out of the receiver...does not have an interference fit. To further check I loosened the barrel clamp again and can wiggle the barrel up and down...with this sloppy fit barrel droop would seem to be the problem when the clamp is torqued down. Just for the heck of it I slipped a spare 10/22 barrel in I had laying around and it was sloppy too so it appears the receiver bore is out of spec.

Just read today on another forum someone commented about the same peep sight situation as I had....at 25 yards rear sight all the way down and still shooting high.

$149.52 Net :neener:
Never been a 10/22 fan but have many T/Cs so I saw this deal I couldn't say no. Nets out shipped for $149.52 Brownells had it for $299.99- $40 instant discount code LX4 (had to add a filler to hit $300) + 10 FFL processing charge -$60 Brownells gift card I'll get - $50 T/C rebate -$10.47 Active Junky rebate = $149.52 Total! How can I beat a deal like that? Hope I like it. I wanted a threaded barrel Semi Auto & like the idea of using Ruger mags, barrels & the peep sight & it's a T/C which I'm sure is better much better than a 10/22. I've had great service out of & must own 40+ different T/Cs total. Brownells stands behind everything they sell forever also. I love a good deal biggrin.gif
