Awhile back on one of the gun forums I read, there was a post concerning getting delivery of ammo at home via UPS and the concern that the neighbors or landlord would know there was ammo being delivered. At the time the consensus was that the package would not identify this as such and the package would only have an ORM-D sticker ("Other Regulated Materials-Domestic". Packages bearing this mark contain hazardous material in a limited quantity that presents a limited hazard during transportation, due to its form, quantity, and packaging.). I received a shipment of ammo today from Natchez Shooters via UPS with the ORM-D sticker attached, and across the top of the sticker was printed "CARTRIDGES, SMALL ARMS". Has anyone else noted this before or is this something new?

That's the way it is required to be marked, according to Federal law.

http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/tex...8&view=text&node=49:2.1.1.3.7.4.25.12&idno=49

49 CFR 172.316:

(a) Each non-bulk packaging containing a material classed as ORM-D must be marked on at least one side or end with the ORM-D designation immediately following or below the proper shipping name of the material. The ORM designation must be placed within a rectangle that is approximately 6.3 mm (0.25 inches) larger on each side than the designation.

I have always seen the ORM-D stickers on my deliveries, but this is the first time I noticed "CARTRIDGES, SMALL ARMS" on the sticker.

When I bothered to look, all I saw was a rubber stamp with all the required info under a shipping sticker.

That's a shipping requirement as per the DOT. Also it quickly alerts the transportation company (USPS, FEDEX, etc) as to what they have in their vehicle in case of an accident and for loading/storage purposes.

It also beats having to use this:
class1placard.gif
Then you neighbors would really be suspicious.:D

Um, WRONG
unless you deal with some crazy stuff
proper class for small arms ammo is 1.4

1.1 is High explosive, and grenades or HE ammo is classed that......

Reread the post before yours carefully. Note the phrase: It also beats having to use this:

I like getting packages with those labels on them. I get tingly all over, it's my Christmas anymore. And I get to open it.

If you are going to show a class one placard, please use the proper one, or a flat 1, implying that all ammo is 'high explosives'....

if you have dealt with hasmat shipping you would understand, but then I guess you haven't
