I was looking at the precisionsmallarms website (they make new baby Brownings)
And I saw they had one kind of ammo listed with exceptional (for a .25) power.

“MAG SAFE HAND MADE AMMO
.25 Auto/1670 Feet Per Second At Front of Muzzle/127 Foot Lbs. of Kinetic Energy
Tested From: 2.125 inch barrel
www.magsafeonline.com”

Is there any other .25 acp ammo with similar performance?
(Because $2.60 a shot is kind of spendy)

Bullet weight is 22 grains. Considering that for the most part the lightweight, frangible "super ammo" like extreme shock, glaser etc have a tendency to form shallow, messy wounds because they dump energy too fast, I would steer far clear of these. The last thing you want is your 25 ACP penetrating LESS than it normally would.

But hey, for 2.60 a shot, snake oil apparently hasn't been hit by the recession.

I would suggest going with Sellier & Bellot or Fiocchi FMJ ammunition as both are known to be loaded to close to the max SAMMI specs and the FMJ ensures you get as much penetration out of the cartridge as possible.

+3

Frangible ammo penetration like the Mag-Safe is marginal at best in larger calibers.
But at least they carry more projectile weight then a pinch of rat-shot glued together with epoxy.

As folks already noted, the .25 ACP FMJ loads will penetrate deep enough to get-R-done and do some organ damage from a COM shot.
The frangible stuff will not.

BTW: Using energy figures as a measure of bullet performance is not meaningful.

A ping-pong ball at 2,000 FPS has a lot of energy.
But not much killing power.

Kind of OT, but I'd be impressed if you could get a regulation ping-pong ball to 2000 FPS for any measurable distance (if at all).

But man, wouldn't that be awesome? I'd buy one. :D

BTW, thanks G.A.Pster for the "heads-up" on Precisionsmallarms. I hadn't heard about them until now. I've been toying around with a baby Browning for a while, so this might be a viable route to go.
