I'm looking for some advice. I have an Encore .50 cal, which uses 209 primers. I also have some 777 (I think) - it's the round stuff, with the hole in it and you use three of them. I've had this gun for years and have never even fired it...

A few months ago, I read an article somewhere (Field & Stream maybe?), that recommended a different type of primer for these types of powder, that supposed causes less fouling. Did anyone happen to see that article? Anyone know what primer they were recommending?

Is there a primer, other than a #209, that is better to use?

Thanks for any help. (I have no experience with BP, yet.)

Remington (maybe others too) is making a 209 primer that is supposed to reduce fouling. I believe they call it kleanbore. The issue with 777 is the "crude ring" that builds up in some gun and the new primer is reported to reduce or eliminate that problem.
