I am going nuts trying to decide on what to get, I really have enough guns, but we know we never have enough. So it's between another carry gun or a range gun/home defense weapon. I have gone form the PPQ, P30, to the R1 and Ruger, Colt commander, and back. Just can't come up with a plan, I have seen the CCP in pictures, it has 8+1 rounds of 9mm and the PPQ trigger, it may be worth waiting for, but other than that is anything on the horizon?
I have between $1000 and 1200 to spend, I thought maybe get a couple of lasers and a carry gun, or a new 1911.
It's been weeks of looking at Sigs, H&K's, etc, still nothing hit's me other than the PPQ, and the "navy" is around today on Buds.

There's probably a 2.0 R51 coming soon...:D. Bunch more like the Pico that are supposed to be out already

I don't have my Illinois CCW yet but when I do I probably will CCW my Walther PPQ.

Don't know if you have tried one yet but what a SWEET pistol. Other possibilities that I own for CCW are Glock 19, SIG SP2022, and SIG P229. I also own an HK P30L. Another really sweet pistol but the trigger on the PPQ is oh so perfect in comparison.

I am interested in the CCP also but mostly for the wife as it is supposed to be really easy to work the slide and soft recoiling in addition to the slim grip.

Good luck!

I have several Conceal carry guns but I am very much interested in the new slender single stack Walther CCP.

The CCP has a completely different trigger than the PPQ.

If you are looking for a slim single stack pistol that is easy to conceal and reliable look at the Walther PPS.

I agree. There is no way I would choose an Umarex-made CCP (with a manual safety) over the superb PPS.

The Walther PPS is a good gun, but they do not sell well. The paddle mag release hurts this gun. Walther has not made the same mistake on the later PPX, PPQ-M2 guns... Smart move Walther.

Another gun that is new to the market in your price range is the excellent Swiss-made Sphinx SDP 9mm imported by Kriss. It is somewhat similar to the CZ design but much better made with an action smoother than any I have handled yet. Frankly, I like it better than my custom $1200 CZ P-01.

I couldn't decide between the PPQ and the HK P30 so I bought both. Perhaps a "compromise" like that is in order for you? ;)

P7, if you don't already have one.

The CCP is just a Walther P7 gas delayed blowback without the squeeze cocker. Since I detect a hint of wanting something different in a carry gun, the P7 sure is, meets the budget in the near term, and you get something that is slim and fairly easy to conceal. It's rare enough for cool factor.

When nothing new seems to suit, go retro. You get an original before somebody offers up a new era P7 with all the works done over. Not likely as badly done as the R51, either. Serious old school Teutonic machining that will never be done again. Too pricey for the modern budget.

Fishbed, where did you see that about the trigger, I read that they were using the PPQ trigger in the CCP. I always liked the P7, but if I recall it was a heavy gun.

It seems like a dry spell because we are so used to things moving fast these days.

Besides the slew of concealed carry guns, all of the following are new designs and are less than 5 years old:

- Walther PPX
- SIG P320
- FN-FNS
- Arsenal Strike One
- CZ P-09
- S&W SD Series (arguably based on the Sigma)

Extend that out to the last 10 years and you get almost every other player's handguns except Glock and the Beretta 92 (though Beretta has newer models like the PX4).

Given that up until the advent of the internet it seems like most gun companies came out with a new pistol every 25-30 years, I think we're living in the golden age of firearms right now.

Don't forget about the Boberg XR9-S (and L). Painfully pricey but a very innovative almost 'bullpup' design allowing a long barrel for a short design. Very narrow and smooth sided. I haven't decided it I'm going to spring for one, or if my checkbook will allow but it's quite a piece.
If not for that, the Shield is a great choice but since CA does not allow CCW I'll stick with the G26. Ten rounds for a bit more width seems like a fair tradeoff.

Fishbed, where did you see that about the trigger, I read that they were using the PPQ trigger in the CCP.

Walther lists the trigger travel for the CCP as 0.27" and the trigger travel for the PPQ as 0.40" (with a 0.1" reset). Also the PPQ has an an additional safety in the face of the trigger.

Also all you need to do is look at the two pistols. Based on the locations of the cross pins, it's evident that the two pistols do not share trigger geometries. That and the CCP's obvious lack of the PPQ's Glock-style trigger safety.

Like Tirod said, going retro may be a good thing. I just bought a nice old Walther P5. It is a sweet gun and his suggestion about the P7 is a sound one too. Like Mgmorden stated above, we have so many to choose from in this "golden age" of the pistol it can be bewildering in making a decision.

The Sig 320, mentioned above, looks interesting, available in a sub compact with various frames, barrels, and calibers available for swapping. It also comes in 3 calibers with 13 rounds of 9mm. Larger than the solo but has a rail and many standard features including Night sites.
But the shield will work just fine.

I have been carrying my HK P7 for a long time, and I would also recommend it. However, the Walther CCP seems interesting to me, although I am suspect of Umarex quality compared to Walther/Ulm quality.

A lighter single stack, gas delayed blowback sounds good to me, although with a good belt, and holster the P7 is fine.

You have to have a special tool made by Walther to field strip the Walther CCP, so that rules it out for me immediately.

It is always amazing me that gun owners, as a group, complain that there isn't anything new and exciting, but when a gun manufacturer makes something new, there is a whole brigade of gun owners who just can't wait to criticize the hell out of it.

Glock makes the G42 and people say "It sucks, they should have made a slim 9" Ruger and Sig Sauer chamber the LC9 and the P290 in 380 AUTO and people say - "It's a solution looking for a problem."

I love it when new stuff comes out, I just wish I could afford to buy it!

My LGS Buddies put 2 Pico's in their "to be delivered" cart - One is mine and one is for stock. They have not been able to "order" one until a couple weeks ago which their distributor says is because they are coming "any day now" and so have allowed ordering.

The Pico is the only new thing I have really been following - last handgun on my Bucket List and Gun Budget.

I have to get that S&W 929

I have wanted a 9mm revolver for the longest time, I took a pass on the S&W 547 and the Rugers because I wanted adjustable sights. I thought that they would come out with a model with adjustable sights, instead they stopped making 9mm revolvers :(

The 929 has EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING I ever wanted in a 9mm revolver.

I have to get one.

So getting a .32 ACP is way down the list...
