Drop me an email if you want to get on the NM Shooters Listserv!

We went down in the first place because Sam was customizing a Star BM for Gil.

Here they are when Sam first got the gun to Gil (Sam's got the beard):

Gil liked it a lot!

We had a great time Slim, wish you could have come down.

I have to say again that watching Matt shoot, shoot well, and really enjoying himself was the best part. We need to do a lot more to encourage young shooters. He is a very polite and courteous shooter and will bring a lot of credit to the next generation of shooters.

What customization was done to the Stars?

The one I looked at had a couple things I'd modify.

Cut the frontstrap in higher under the trigger guard.

Maybe do the same to the backstrap for a higher grip.

Checker stipple both as needed.

So, what did y'all do? what am I missing?

Sam,

It's been my happy experience that young shooters are almost always polite and mature beyond their years. They want to be grown-ups, and respect from the adults in their lives who teach them to shoot is very important to them. They appreciate the responsibility they earn, and it shows in their behavior.

carebear,
The frames on both have been raised in the rear but no the front. Also changed the contour of the cutouts behind the trigger. Feed ramp recontoured(they are really steep) Mag wells opened.
Innards deburred and polished, frames, magazines and bushings electroless nickled, slides and controls parkerized. Magazine cuts radiused, resprung and numbered to the gun. Slide and bushing tightened on mine, Gil's didn't need it. Lightly de snaggged, hammer spurs shortened. Sights set to give a 25 yard POI. The plate was done over a mild beadblast that makes it just tacky enough to keep from slipping without eating you cloths like checkering. Oh, a really nice set of Ziricote grips for each too.

Either one will shoot pins at 50 yards all day long if you can do your part.

Email Erich and get on the list. You won't get trash, just notifications of new members and when and where we will be shooting. Something like 1 time a quarter.

carebear, having shot both Sam's and Gil's Stars (Sam's on several occasions) those pistols are an incredibly good deal if you want an all steel single stack compact 9mm. Very accurate, little recoil, and comfortable in the hand.

Of course I am a Glock owning heretic myself...:p

We were discussing the possibility of a summer shoot in Socorro, hopefully we will be able to get most of the NM folks together for this one. This is not a formal club, anyone is welcome, even Texans.:neener:

True, I've got a couple of Tejano friends who may well show up one of these days. :) Hope so.

We've also been talking about a Farmington/4-Corners shoot before winter comes.

Say, carebear, the owner of that Star is a good friend of mine. Here are some pics in case you wanted to see a "before" and "after" shot of the pistol in question:

Gotta love that jeweling - really puts the cherry on the already exquisite sundae. And, yes, Sam made the stocks as well. :)

Best thing is, it's a real shooter! :D

carebear,
Didn't mess with the frontstrap.
I think the grips make it look flattened out, come a lot closer to the edge than the stock ones.
