I'm setting up my set of 22 hornet dies, and I have a problem. The books I've looked in (Lee and Lyman) both state that the total length of the loaded round should be 1.723 inches in length. If I try and seat the 40 grain V-Max projectiles to that length, all of the rifling bearing surface and half of the ogive will be inside the case. The Hogdon web site lists the over all length of a 22 hornet loaded with a 45 grain hornady sp to be 1.750, which is obviously longer than what is listed in the manuals. I seated an un-primed and un-charged case with a projectile at 1.870 inches, and at that length, the projectile shows no signs of touching the riflings in my TC contender (21 inch barrel, the only gun I plan on shooting these loads out of). At that length, the majority of the rifling bearing surface of the projectile is in the case, and the start of the ogive is just in front of the case mouth. Does this sound like a safe and usable length? All brass in question has been trimmed to the proper length.

Some loads are shown at 1.850,MIN OAL, with 45gr bullets. As long as it chambers in your gun, your ok.
